Description:
Intimidated by knitted socks? Learn to make simply easy crochet socks from the Toe up. Use your favorite sock yarn and learn a new stitch to create a softer fabric with toes and heels that are a bit heavier to prevent wearing out quickly. They are made in one piece with just 2 ends per sock to weave in. We will also work both socks together to help prevent 1 sock syndrome!
Class will be broken up in to two parts: Week 1: Creating the toe and foot; Week 2: Turning the heel, leg and cuff.
Supplies Needed:
350 yards of your favorite sock yarn - Divided into 2 balls
Size E (3.5 mm) crochet hook, or size needed for gauge
Class Policies: Click here (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=61285) to read our Online Class Policies for students. Please read these policies prior to registering for a class.

Usually the month of the class. Since it's so early in the month, it will likely be a week before or so.

Can someone tell me, are socks hard to do? I think I am an advanced beginner (I am just afraid to try something new), and I would like to learn socks.
Thanks!

This is a beginner sock class. If you can single crochet, Double crochet and work in the round.. you can definitely do this sock class!

I am new to crocheting any kind of socks - exactly what kind of yarn is needed? Something by Red Heart?
JoviMom
August 28, 2009, 06:49 PM
Red Heart does not at this time have yarn that will work for this class. You will need to get something like Patons Stretch Socks, Bernat Sox Patons Kroy sock yarn or go to your LYS and pick up a sock yarn like Malabrigo, Pagewood Farms, Regia... etc...
Does that help?
grammyjel
August 28, 2009, 06:56 PM
Yes, that does help - thanks!

Red Heart does have a sock yarn that's super fine weight.

Why wouldn't that work?

Okay, here's another dumb question - what is the equivalent between yards & grams?

Nope.. It is thicker than most sock yarns...

There isnt an equivalent.. Different yarns are different weight even if the yardage is the same...
You will need to go with Yards for this class.

Is there a gauge that we could work up in advance to make sure our hook size is correct before we start? My yarn is supposed to arrive today- it's on the UPS truck and I might want to play later tonight.

I had my yarn out....was going to split it into two balls so I could make both socks, but I'm not sure how I'm going to know when I have it split in half. :sigh Might end up buying anothe skein to make it easier on me. :devil

I just checked. I guess the registration is now closed for my class. I am sorry.
Keep watching though! I will be teaching the class again. It is one of my most popular!
