i know about the hamster hideout found in crochet pattern central, but i would like something simpler. preferably a bed, and what kind of yarn would be safe to use for a hamster? i heard cotton isn't, but acrylic maybe? if you don't know that's fine.

Hemp is the only thing you could use that would be safe for hamsters- not hemp yarn, but actual hemp twine. Hamsters can easily get intestinal blockages for eating any type of fabric or thread, not to mention getting their toes/nails caught in it and causing a break.

Depending on your piggy- cotton or acrylic might work. You would know if your pig eats things it shouldn't or not- or if you suspect he will. The main problem with hamsters is just one bite can be enough to tangle in the intestines. Twine, though, of course, would be safer for any pet. Not soft at all, of course, but if you're talking about maybe a tunnel to crawl through- they would probably enjoy it.

I know I had grass mats and huts for my rabbits and pigs years ago- and twine is essentially the same thing.

You make me want to come up with some hamster pattern ideas with twine! Now where did I put that huge roll of the stuff again? lol
