I would love to see crochet sweater patterns made with DK or sport weight yarns that mimics Bavarian or Norwegian style designs. I plan on designing my own, but was trying to get more concrete idea of what has been done, what it looks like and a guestimate of how much yarn I need.

I' m thinking of using sw merino wool or a blended fiber with merino. It's the only wool that doesn't itch me to death.

Not sure if I know exactly what you mean by Norwegian and Bavarian, but.....for Norwegian I think of colorwork; there is the Northern Dreams pullover by Julia Vaconsin http://www.interweavecrochet.com/issue/2008/materials_fall08.asp#northerndreams

for Bavarian, would that be subtle cables and texture? Lisa Naskrent has done some great cables altho not sure she has an adult sweater that is cabled http://www.crochetgarden.com/

This might also help, even though it's knit... maybe it doesn't have a lot, but you could look around or see what it says...

There is a beautiful "fair isle" afghan in Afghans for All Seasons. I've made it (see attached). Mosaic Magic also has a couple of fair isle type things although I haven't made them to date. It's a very pretty look.

Heather, that is a beautiful afghan!:hook

the book Glorious Crocheted Sweaters has some very interesting colorwork, textured stitches, etc. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0806969911/ref=s9_simx_gw_s0_p14_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0TYVQN2GYTRF9WJ79PCJ&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846
the garments are all oversized since that was the style when it was published, but there are a lot of interesting ideas.

Heather, that is exquisite.

Just for another possibility, I did a bit of searching "auf Deutsch" and found this site which has patterns for sale. It is in English, well, mostly. I set the link on a page which has patterns of motifs. They all look traditional to me. (I lived in Germany for many years.)

http://www.handarbeitsshop.de/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=17&Itemid=1&lang=en

The photos of the patterns are clickable. I'm guessing they didn't make them have any more contrast so that people wouldn't be able to copy the stitch patterns from the photos.

Perhaps one of the C'ville members in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, or in Scandanavia will post.

Thank you, all. I have enjoyed browsing through all the links. Lord I wish I had the talent of the ladies on the tapestry crochet blog. Absolutely stunning sweaters.

Many moons ago I had a Bavarian sweater purchased in Garmisch, I believe...somewhere in that region. That's the pic in my head. Not cables or fancy stitches more about color, had designs though can't remember the shapes. Metal flower buttons with loop like closure.

Again thanks for providing me mucho more than I had yesterday in vision/ideas!

The afghan is gorgeous.
