I want to make the Minimex poncho found here. web.************/web/20011.../v-10.html (http://web.************/web/20011021175615/www.cei.net/~vchisam/groovy/v-10.html) I am looking over the pattern and I am stumped! First of all, what is *pats*? I am guessing it is pattern, as in pattern stitch. I am not really sure what that is in this pattern.

Then it says to work pats along the short edge. What??? I am imagining it like a scarf and crocheting the pattern along where you would put the fringe. Would that be right?? I really need to know cause this is referred to later on in the pattern!

Is this Poncho made in 2 pieces?? I am wondering because it says to work the second half the same. Only thing is, I can't figure out the first part!?!?! I thought maybe the diagram for this is the same as for this pattern www.adultramblings.therap...oncho.html (http://www.adultramblings.therapids.net/stripedponcho.html) but I can't figure out that diagram either!!

I have never been so frustrated with a pattern before! Help!!!

I'm working on one of these for myself. (adult sized of course). It is worked in two identical panels. In looking at that pattern, I would say that *pats* means to repeat the pattern. Once you have two identical panels.. they are joined like this:

(hand drawn diagram - lovely artwork by ME. LOL <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/nahnahbooboo.gif" /> )

Most of the ponchos I've seen in the mall lately are fashioned this way.

I hope this helps! Good luck.

Glad to be of help. <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/veryhappy.gif" />

I think it helps that a temp in our office came in with one of these ponchos a couple of weeks ago. I was bold enough to walk right up to her and ask if I could study her poncho more closely. She took it off and said, "have at it!" Being a visual person, SEEING it close up really helped.

Luvtocraft,

I've tried this pattern myself, and it was the stitch that confused the fuzz out of me! "Row 1: 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, * skip 2 ch, 1 dc in next ch, ch 1, 1 dc in first of the skipped ch, repeat from *"

Does that make an X type stitch?? I couldn't figure it out and finally made a pattern of my own... But when it refers to work pats along short edge, it is meaning the end where the fringe would go (generally, although the other end is stitched to the long side of the rectangle), at least that's how I read it. Best of luck with it though!!

Does that make an X type stitch??
Yes, it does make an X stitch called Cross Stitch. It can be done in front (http://stitchguide.com/stitches/crochet/stitch_pages/cro_xstitch_front.html) or in back (http://stitchguide.com/stitches/crochet/stitch_pages/cro_xstitch_back.html) :))
