Need pattern help on yoke!

Ok, I've got the special stitch figured out, but it's what comes in row 1 of this pattern that has me stumped!

The pattern is in Crochet! magazine Sept. issue, if you have it on hand-- for the "Confetti toggle jacket."


I'm going to leave out how to work the special stitches unless someone asks for them to help figure this out for me.

Foundation row: Beg at neck, with M/N hook and MC, ch 4, beg fsc (see special stitches) in second ch from hook, leave next 2 chs unworked; beg in beg fsc, work 13 fsc (see special stitches), ch 3, remove hook from lp, place lp on safety pin. Do not fasten off. Do not turn. [14 fsc]

Row 1: Sk first 2 chs and first 2 fsc; leaving a 1-yard tail, join MC with a sl st in next fsc, sc in each of next 8 fsc, sl st in next fsc. Fasten off. Turn. [8 sc]

I gave the pattern as how I need to work the number of stitches for what will fit my daughter. MC is the code that they gave to the boucle yarn used for the pattern (CC is the code that they gave the fun fur.) In Row 1, I know where my stitches are supposed to go, but I'm not sure what they mean by leaving a tail when I join with the sl st. Also, am I supposed to be using the MC from my current ball, or a new ball (since it needs to be fastened off?) As I was typing this, I realized that I didn't do the ch 3 at the end of the foundation row, so I'm off to go do that while I wait for you wonderful people to give some suggestions.

Hi, Amy! I have this issue of Crochet! magazine.

MC and CC are common abbreviations and they mean Main Color and Contrasting Color.

I just skimmed over the pattern, but it looks to me like the 1-yard tail might be for sweing a button on at the very end. I'm not sure. If you read through the pattern carefully you may be able to figure that out for sure. Since it doesn't say to use a new ball, I'd continue with the one you're using. Those are my best guesses! :p

I ended up figuring this out on my own, but I did use a second ball for that problem area. But, the jacket is too small!!! I worked for the medium size, and there's no way it will fit my daughter after "blocking to size/measurement." <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/irked.gif" />

So, I will finish it up and see if someone from work would be willing to buy it. It's too adorable! I'll have to try to modify the pattern so it will fit my daughter.
