Hi everyone, new to crochetville and need help. I am making an afghan from my own pattern and want to put a border around it. When you crochet in the end of rows is there a formula as to how many stitches to use. I mean is it 1 stitch in a single, 2 in a double, etc?

Generally it sort of depends on what kind of stitches the crochet piece is made up of. You have the right idea, one stitch in a single, two in a double etc. and working 3 single crochets/ or 5 double crochets in the corner stitches. Sometimes though you have to fudge it a little to get the right multiple of stitches if you are going to add a more decorative pattern stitch around the afghan in addition to single crocheting around it. But for the most part your first instinct is correct.

Welcome both of you!
Whenever I do an edging of my own making, I gage it and fudge it. If their are chain stitches then I do more. Sorry to not be of more help! Let us know how it goes.
