Description: Kente cloth is a type of cloth native to the country of Ghana that was developed in the 12th century. Kente cloth is readily identified by its dazzling, multicolored patterns that feature bright colors, geometric shapes, and bold designs.

During this class you'll learn a little about traditional Kente cloth patterns, what the traditionally-used colors symbolize, and how to graph your own original patterns to make Kente-inspired afghans out of "saltines" (two-row granny squares).

Supplies Needed:

Yarn weight of your choice
Appropriate size hook
Tapestry needle
Graph paper
Colored pencils

Do you have a picture of the finished project? I'm having a difficult time imaging what it will look like. It sounds interesting though.

No, there is no finished project because each person will create their own unique pattern.

Maybe it will help if you think of each colored square as a "saltine"--a two-row granny square.

The examples are meant to show the types of geometric patterns you can come up with. They are not meant to show the size of an actual finished project.

I've updated the thread with a small sample swatch to show how the "saltines" look when they're put together.
