Class Begins: Friday, January 1, 2010.

Skill Level: No knitting skills needed. Basic crochet skills: chain, single crochet, double crochet.

Description: There are times when a little knitting is desired and will make a crochet project look really sharp! The most obvious use of knitting would be ribbing. Knitted ribbing is perfect for so many crochet projects! And, why not add a nice rib around the neck? Perhaps a turtleneck? Learning a few handy knitting skills will help add just the right finishing touch to your crochet.

Learn directly from a crocheter, in the style most popular for crocheters. Learning to knit doesn't mean that you'll need to hold your yarn any differently. You can learn in the Continental style and still be able to hold your yarn in your non-hook hand. Business as usual. See step-by-step how this is done. Learning directly from a crocheter makes it so much easier to learn.

If you have already started to learn to knit, but you've been learning as a "thrower", why not try out Continental with us? You won't believe the ease and quickness when doing rib or seed stitch patterns. Not having the extra step of "throwing" makes these stitch patterns go much more smoothly and quickly.

In this class, you will learn the two basic knit stitches; knit and purl. You'll learn how to cast on and bind off stitches with a crochet hook instead of the traditional fashion. And, you'll learn how to pick up stitches to add that knitted rib to a crocheted project.

Due to this being a beginning knitting class, the length of the class is two weeks to give students plenty of practice time.

Supplies Needed:

Smooth worsted weight yarn
Size 8 knitting needles
Size H crochet hook (to make simple small crochet swatch to practice picking up stitches on edge to knit)
