Seems appropriate for my non-cooking daughter. Made of Sugar and Cream cotton. Afghan stitch with F and D hooks. Another design to follow heh, heh.
Edit: Graph posted in message #46.

Thanks for any help.

Each square on the graph represents one stitch. Or, in filet crochet, it represents a block or space.

Fran, I just love that!:cheer
What a neat idea! I've never tried graphed pictures for crochet yet.
Does it require a special hook or do you just use the regular ones?

July 28, 2005, 05:40 PM
That is totally awesome! What a unique idea =) :cheer

fran
July 28, 2005, 05:46 PM
Becky, I used a regular hook but, with 40 stitches on it, wrapped a rubber band around the end so they wouldn't slip off. All of my other graph work has been on afghans using afghan hooks. I don't have any afghan hooks that are an F which is the size I used for the potholder. Don't know if they make them that small. They do come in G.

That is so neat! Goodness knows I could of used one of those. I am guilty of catching the kitchen on fire (yes LITERALLY) when I first got married. I was never taught to cook, and kind of umm... did something you are not supossed to do. Learned my lesson but good! Lol.

I can't get my graph software to copy and paste it here online or in a PM.

Fran-
just wondering...what software are you using PC STITCH 7, or something else?

fran
August 1, 2005, 11:38 PM
The software I use for graphs is Stitch Craft Pro for Macintosh. There's a lot I haven't learned about it though.

With F or G hook chain 41. Continue in afghan stitch, following graph:
Brown squares=red, red squares=orange, yellow squares-yellow
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y187/fran6211/FlamesScan.jpg
I stopped at the black line since the afghan stitch is taller than it is wide and I wanted a square potholder. If you use a different stitch, you may want to make the original graph design.
For better insulation (and to hide the back of the work) make a black square out of the same yarn and sc it to the back of the potholder.

Let's see. If i wanted to just make a square or something, could I use a single stitch? Please let me know.......I don't know how to do the afghan stitch yet...I tried once, but I wans't sure if i was doing it right.

fran
August 10, 2005, 05:54 PM
Yes, you can use a sc stitch.

August 10, 2005, 06:21 PM
Thank you! Now if I can just figure out how to do a chart without going crazy. I tried doing it where you carry the other color thru the current stitches, but that seems to only work on 1 side or something like that. Help!!!

I saw a hat like that (flames) on "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody"

It'd be a hot seller for cooler weather ahead.
That was riddled with puns, huh?

i am having a devil of a time with this...

HERE (http://home.comcast.net/~crochet_cindy/tutorial/afghan.htm) is the link i have used for instructions on how to change color... not so sure that i'm doing it right, though :think

fran
November 2, 2005, 10:52 AM
Do you have a picture of your work? Which part is giving you trouble? The color is changed in the first part of the stitch, right to left; is that it? Tip for later: I didn't worry about weaving in the ends as I will put a plain back on it for added insulation.

so...if its for your non-cooking daughter...is this potholder indicative of the times when she burns the dinner?? ;) that was me for like 2 years straight when i tried to learn to cook after i got married!

great work!

November 8, 2005, 06:54 PM
fran, i don't have pics - i got so mad at it the other day, i cut my yarn and threw the whole **** thing in the trash..... i have a wee bit of a temper when it comes to things i can't seem to accomplish :blush

do you happen to have pictures of how you are making the color change?
if not, how can i bribe you to take some??? :P

fran
November 8, 2005, 07:01 PM
I'm sorry you're having trouble with it. I'll try to make a swatch with a couple of color changes and take pics for you.

This is SO awesome. I'm completely intimidated by Tunisian stitch as well as changing colors so it might be awhile before I would attempt this, but I'd love ti try it. What a great job! :manyheart
