Here are a few summer tops I've made:
This first one is based loosely on one found in a pattern book I have.
It's made out of worsted weight cotton. It's meant to be worn with a tank top under it. ( all images are clickable )

This one is also loosely based on a different pattern found in the same book as the top above.

I don't have a pattern written because I have been working on it off and on for months, and have lost my notes. The basic idea is simple though. It was worked in the round, ( joined with a slip stitch and turned each round) I just made a chain that fit around my chest when slightly stretched, in a number that was divisible by both 2 and 3 + 1 . I worked 1 row of sc into the chain to give a nice starting base and then I worked 3 rows of X-stitch ch1 skip 1 stitch repeat around, 1 row of Dc in each st around, 1 row of dc, ch1, skip one stitch, repeat around and another row of Dc. I repeated that pattern until I reached where the bottom of the bra would be and then I switched to a crumpled griddle stitch to provide coverage I worked it in that stitch in the round until it covered the sides and back of the bra and then I worked the front in rows. The shaping was done by trying it on every few rows and decreasing as needed. I did this mostly in the late evenings lol because I had to crochet the top part without wearing a shirt sinse I was trying it on so much. It was annoying but worth it because it's about the only tank I have that covers the bra completely with no parts peeking out.
It's made from some spinnerin sabrina yarn that I bought off of ebay.
I really wanted a top that was cool and open at the bottom but covered everything on the top so that I didn't have to wear an additional top underneath, Sexy on the bottom, modest on top. I'm very pleased. If I do this again( and I think I will ) I am thinking I'll start the v neck a little lower and make the strap go around the neck like a halter.
