How do you work it? Is it a percentage? If so how large a percentage? I am looking at doing flip flops (and maybe scarves) with a salon.
Any imput appreciated!

Usually, the store gets a percentage of sales. If the item doesn't sell for awhile then they might ask you the replace that with something else. The amount is different with each store. It depends. Go in, ask if they are interested, and if they are they'll write up a contract. Don't leave anything anywhere before first getting a paper with each item listed and numbered. It would help for you to have everything numbered before you even go in. They'll pick what items they want displayed in their store, so write those numbers on the contract or another paper, both parties sign it to say that is what they have. Each month, when you come in to check on things, the list will change. Mark off old items, and write in new ones. That's about it.

I forgot to say this. The list of items will need to be written on 2 papers. You both sign both pieces. You keep one paper, the manager of the store takes the other.

Let me re-emphasis that you need a contract. Be sure to not only include what you bring in, but everything related to how you'll get your money. Include the percentage the store takes, how long they want the items, when you'll get paid, etc.
In most cases with cosignment, you can bring in a few samples and a catalog of what you have. A photo album that features your pictures is fine. They will look and decide what they want and how much they want and all the terms listed above. Commission varies a lot. I've been told anywhere from 15-40%, but most places I deal with normally take an average of 20%. Let me emphasis this again, make sure they tell you when you'll get paid! If you rent a booth, they automatically pay you monthly or bimonthly, but with cosignment, that's usually not the case. Sometimes they pay monthly, but usually it's every few months or when you get your things. You need to make sure so if there is a problem in you getting paid, there won't be a question of when you should receive your check.
Ask if they need you to provide a way to display your things. Most stores have enough displays, other's don't. If not, you'll probably want to find something.
When you move out, be sure to do your inventory while you are there. That protects you in case something is missing they haven't paid you for. Good luck!
