I wanted to make a mat to house my dog's food and water dishes, and couldn't find a pattern. So I winged it. It works.

Darling! And the mat is very cute, too. ;) I'd need it about 3 times as large for my dogs, though. :lol Was the pattern hard? Have you thought about a fish for cats (subtle hint, there)? Patty

This looks really cute and useful. I crochet a great deal for animal shelters and want to help to raise money for an a ward winning free publication on animal issues in New Mexico, Petroglyphs. A pattern for this super bone mat would be quite useful. I bow to your creativity.

It was simple....after frogging it too many times to mention. I used three strands of chunky yarn and an N hook. It could easily be made any size.

I will try and write up my pattern and post it.
thanks for the comments.

Thank you everyone. I will write up the pattern tomorrow. I have to go out tonight. It is really simple and could be made any size. It is working really well, and I am so pleased. My dog, Lucky, who had a bad haircut and refused to pose for the camera, LOL, doesn't make that much of a mess. Actually we are the ones that usually knock the water dish, so this way it is more noticable.

Maria,

that is absolutely perfect. I am the one that needs to thank you for your help. How many stitches did you use for the shaft? I needed to change my original number of stitches and would definitely make it longer next time myself. You did a wonderful job.

For the rest of you....I will post the pattern tonight or tomorrow morning. I am copyrighting it so that I can sell it to a magazine, so the usual applies:
use it for your own use, but please do not sell it or pass it as your own, blah, blah, blah. Thanks to all who took interest in my project.:manyheart

Here are my versions of Andrea's dog bone pattern!

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a185/sunshine1977/DogBoneRugs.jpg
The top one is done in three strands of RH Tweed - Moss and an M hook. The bottom one is done in two strands of Yarn Bee Highland Thistle in Shetland (from Hobby Lobby) and an M hook. The Tweed one turned out very tailored, but the bottom one is very fuzzy and funky looking - I love it!! Thanks again for the pattern, Andrea!!

sunshine1977
August 14, 2005, 02:22 AM
Andrea -

The RH Tweed is WW, of course, but the Highland Thistle is definitely chunky if not heavier...It is a lightly twisted acrylic with a shiny wrap as well as shiny and fuzzy, sparse eyelashes...really cool yarn!! I tried doing 3 strands with an N hook with the Highland Thistle, but it was just too much, so I frogged and tried 2 strands with the M, and it worked great! My furbabies just love their food mats!!

Hi,
I just found this thread and was wondering if the magazine you send the design to accepted it??? Or if you had set up your site to sell the pattern yet??? I'm hoping on making one for my doggie who has been adopted out to a friends family - my allergies were too severe. And would like to officially puchase the pattern.
