I had an urge to make a doily after finishing the bookmark. I found my iron, so I blocked it, although I think I have a bit to learn still because bits of it (that I see now, in the picture) aren't laying right. The slip stitch on that center dc round is bugging me (the hole) but I'm not sure how to fix that??

I'm very excited because my gauge is right on ... I've NEVER been right on with yarn, ever, so I'm pretty happy about that.

Anyway, more details on my blog at this entry (http://crochetingcook.blogspot.com/2005/07/cotillion-doily.html) for those interested.

For your first doily, you've done a great job! :clap

All I can say is keep practicing and you'll learn how to do things.

One pointer is that I used to block using an iron but I have since switched to blocking on a foam poster board with pins. I gently handwash the doily in a delicates liquid soap and wring it out in a towel, then pin it to the board, slightly stretching it into shape and then pinning it in place.

I switched because I was getting some discoloration from the iron on the thread.

Everyone blocks a little differently, so how I do it is my technique. :D

The slip stitch on that center dc round is bugging me (the hole) but I'm not sure how to fix that??You can fix that by cheating a bit. Take a bit of sewing thread and a needle. You can do one little stitch pulling the 2 dcs together. OR you can take your crochet hook and pull on the stitches around it until that looseness closes up. I'm only saying that, because it sounds like it's bothering you. You MIGHT want to keep that there. It's a part of a memory. It's your first doily and it's beautiful. That little blip gives your doily character. Besides, if you fix it it's going to still be there. You'll see it every time you look at your doily. LOL. That part doesn't go away. See? You HAVE become a thread addict.
