Yay! My first pattern! :cheer I called it "funkalicious" because the colors I used came out looking really kewl. lol... This would be great for large cats and smaller sized dogs
Please pardon the bad photos. I just found out that my new camera attachment blocks part of the flash. ARGH!

I'm glad you guys like it! I just noticed in the picture that it looks a little like a figure 8, but it's really just an oval. One thing I did notice is that there were (to me) noticable gaps around the CH 3 at the beginning of each round. When I make another one, I will do a CH 2 instead, because the gap isn't as large. It might just be me, but I thought I would throw that out there in case someone else notices this too.
I used some skeins I had lying around the house. I think they were all RH, although a couple of them didn't have their lables anymore. Yup, I got nekkid yard in the house!!!!! :hook
Can't give you the exact color names, but I used a mintish green, light purple, black and the RH varigated "Starbright." I think having the Starbright in there really made it cool because it kept bringing in little flashes of other colors, like yellow, pink and blue, plus coordinating colors of purple and green. It only took about 45 minutes to 1 hour to make...and I'm pretty slow. Plus I didn't have the pattern written down correctly and kept loosing my place. Lol....
Please post pictures if you make one. I would loooooooove to see it!

After constanting fighting with one of my kitties to stay off my projects and the other to stay off my rocking chair, this pad may just be the answer I'm looking for! Thanks for the pattern!

This pattern is not an original for you ... sorry. I've been making these rugs for years from the same pattern. It's a standard one that's been around for many years (but maybe it's new to you ... in that case you must think like a designer). It's always been one of my favorite ones to make. It comes from LA2235 Fabric Rugs and Table Settings. I don't mean to discourage you, but I thought you ought to know.
:cheer Now for the good part ... I love your color combo ... thanks for sharing the pictures.

Carol,
I haven't seen that leaflet, so I didn't copy it from there. However, there is always the possibility that I may have been unwittingly influenced by a pattern I may have seen sometime in the past. This is the first oval item I've ever crocheted before, so I didn't realize it was a "standard" pattern. My apologies.

Great colors! I don't have any pets right now, but I wish I had thought of making one of these when we still had our little doggy. I bet he would have liked it better than the funky pad he had in his kennel.

I made a pad similar to this for my pup. I keep it in her kennel. She pushes it out of the way and lays on the plastic! Maybe it is because it is not as pretty colors as yours!

I'm definitly going to try my hand at this project. It looks simple enough, and yet nice and cozy for the cats in my house. Since they fight over territory in the house all the time I guess I'll have to make a few! :eek

Guess what ?
I keep searching around the Internet looking at patterns and sites...as I'm a brand new beginner. I always stop when I see anything for pets / dogs. Hoping there may be cat stuff. :cat But rarely is my wish full filled.
So..tonight I found a site here:
http://mycrochetstuff.blogspot.com/2005/05/hello-puppies-crochet-for-dogs-links.html (http://mycrochetstuff.blogspot.com/2005/05/hello-puppies-crochet-for-dogs-links.html)
And FINALLY something for cats.:cheer
Your famous !:queen
I seem to have "round" figured out..but 'oval' is one of my questions. :think And I never would have gone searching for rug patterns. So thank YOU very much.
The best part of your pattern is it looks sturdy ! No point in making something that's not going to hold up. I thought of a baby blanket..but I don't think that would last long. I wash my kitties stuff all the time because I do natural flea control since I can't be exposed to any pesticides.
And yes...I wash my cats . :rain
Thanks again ,

Well, looks like I'm going to have to get busy. I have 7 cats! They would love this. The only problem? CAT-FIGHT!!! :lol So, I'll have to make 7. I made my son a blanket and they are on it every chance they get. I guess I should make them their very own beds. Man, that makes 4 projects in line now........phew!

This is very nice! I've found that pets make great gift recipients. I gave a small rug to a neighbor. Her pets take turns napping on it. Great first pattern. Keep it up!!!!! Mary

Just a thought, these could be made for Preschooler's and Kindergartener's "rest rugs" In my son's class, they had a certain size they couldn't be over, so you might want to add a round or two but otherwise it would be perfect! You could even have the child pick the colors they want! I can't wait to make one; I have 3 dogs (big, little, and tiny) and 3 cats. Another thought, how hard would it be to add sides to these? Any ideas on how to add sides? (I wouldn't know where to start...)
Thanks!

Wow this sure is going fast! I am making mine in "patriotic" colors .... sort of LOL Red, White, Blue ... and pink LOL.... DD3 HAD to put PINK in... I am going to keep going around until... umm..... I'm not sure! But I wanted to say that I figured out how to increase more rows! I know this is probably like DUH to most people, but I realized that each row is just 1 more than the last, so increase each number by 1:
Round Seven: CH 3. DC in next 13 sts. 2 DC in next st. *DC in next 5 sts, 2 DC in next st* 5 times. DC in next 14 sts. 2 DC in next st. *DC in next 5 sts, 2 DC in next st* 5 times. Join with sl st to first DC.
Round Eight: CH 3. DC in next 14 sts. 2 DC in next st. *DC in next 6 sts, 2 DC in next st* 5 times. DC in next 15 sts. 2 DC in next st. *DC in next 6 sts, 2 DC in next st* 5 times. Join with sl st to first DC.
See? Pretty simple really, once you "see" the math...

Hi Jen,
Thanks for sharing this...your cat was such a convincing model that I immediately printed out the pattern. I loved all your bright cheerful colors! :clap Our tigerlily now has one in very bright pink, green, yellow and orange. I did a scalloped edging and she loves it! As I was working on it, she kept coming over and kneading it, like she knew it was for her. Now it is positioned in front of the fireplace...her favorite spot! My digital camera is currently not working so I can't put a pic, but I just wanted to say thanks again for sharing it! :cat
