Here is my version of the shrug everyone is making now! It's for my husband's cousin's daughter. I made it for her birthday :) I think she's going to be 7. I'm really happy with this; it's my first clothing piece! And I timed it! Took me forever, cuz I haven't crocheted in a few months: 29.25 hrs. Wow...

It's beautiful!
I'm working on one as well, but am using a "cheater" stitch of chains and sc's so it is going pretty fast.
I like your addition of the fluffy (eyelash?) yarn around the edges.

The majority of it is done with my favorite yarn, Caron Simply Soft (I love it because it IS so soft! Sometimes I feel like regular yarn is too rough...). I used the sweater stitch. The edging is Yarn Bee Frosting. I just did double crochet all around for the edging with it.
