I finished my first sock! I put a picture up on my blog:

I used Bernat Sox in lime green, and a free ankle sock pattern from bernat.com. It's knitted and not crocheted, but I'm sure that some here do both like I do. I used slightly larger dpns than the pattern called for since I hadn't used dpns before. When I make my next pair of socks, I'll use size 3 -- I bought a set of Brittany size 3's. Can't wait to break them in! Have to make the other green sock first though. :)
I did get a small gap on one side where the heel joins the instep. Next time I need to pick up extra stitches at the gusset to prevent that. I can always decrease them back to the # the pattern calls for. It was easy to fix. I just turned the sock inside out and sewed up the gap while I was weaving in the end from closing the toe with kitchner stitch.
I went to the LYS last week and bought the sock yarn for my next project. The yarn is called Zitron Trekking and is 75% wool, 25% nylon. I got a really pretty autumn variegated with shades of deep red, blue, orange and light and dark grey.
Now that I'm familiar with the sock pattern and know how to turn the heel, the 2nd sock won't take me as long to finish.
Hugs! Juli
