Do you dye the yarn before or after you crochet with it? I want to try it but don't know when to do it!

You can do it either way. I've only dyed pre-crocheting so I can't tell you what, if any, difference there might be in how the finished item takes the color. I can tell you it's super fun *g*

I just dyed a bag after I made it. It was the first thing I dyed.

I would think if you are wanting a varigated yarn, then before. If you are aiming for uniform color, then after.

I have done them both ways.

I most of the time dye before hand, but this purse was dyed afterwards...I used two shades of blue and had the bag straddled in the dye pots

I've never tried to dye anything, but I have visions of spending hours crocheting something and then ruining it while trying to dye it:eek ....
