Do you think it would be worth the look to go to a flea market to look for old/older pattern books? Is it worth the time and trouble? :scrachin
There's a large flea market in Londonderry and/or Derry, New Hampshire that I'm thinking about going to next month in my elusive search for my shell/cluster afghan crochet pattern. :shop
Has anyone else been successful finding pattern books at flea markets?

In all my scouting of thift stores and flea markets, I have never seen a crochet or knit pattern book. Maybe you'll have better luck than I did, or at least have fun looking.

I have occasionally found knit and crochet patterns at the flea market, but they are getting scarcer. I have had more luck at garage sales.

I have found oodles of pattern books at thrift stores, of course often go to ones "out in the country", but have found lots of good ones in the city too.
The thing about flea markets if that you can't go spefically for one thing, you just get up really early, pour yourself a big cup of tea/coffee and just see what you can find - because you never seem to find anything you're actaully looking for.
Good luck bargain hunting!

I've had pretty good luck with thrift shops and garage sales, so I would hope that a flea market would have some older magazines or books. If you enjoy a flea market anyway what do you have to lose.......go for it :hook

Not really, unfortunately. I'm sure I'll stumble across it someday, in the mean time it'll make for a good excuse to go to yard sales, flea markets, and thrift stores. I truely appreciate everyone's efforts in helping me.

I've had fabulous luck at several of my local thrift stores, but haven't tried a flea market yet. Good luck!

I would say absolutely go to the flea market and have a look. (Oh to know of one around here. Hey if anybody knows of a flea market in Oregon please let me know.) Anyways, I have had great luck at Goodwill stores, Salvation Army stores, Garage sales (especially ones at churches) and some mission stores. I found my first two crochet books at a St. Vincent DePaul store... one hard back book for $1 and another paperback book for $0.50 (okay so the book is well in 20 or so different pieces but its great and thats why G-d invented page protectors)
Some advice that I would like to pass along... Go expecting nothing, Wear comfy clothes (duh), Don't be shy about pulling up a piece of floor or a chair to sift through your possible finds, and dont limit yourself looking just in the arts and crafts sections... I have found things in the oddest places. The above listed places also have great hooks and knitting needles lurking around.
Good luck on your search.

Thanks, there is a St. Vincent de Paul thrift store in Laconia I want to ck out next weekend. We've donated items to the place before, but haven't really taken the time to look at what they had to offer.

Used bookstores are great! I got a vintage granny square book yesterday. Oh, the colors for the squares are just awful (brown and orange and yellow -- ugh) but in modern colors, the patterns look great. I often see books with afghan patterns in these types of stores.
