I've been wanting to crochet a basket and I liked this pattern. I needed to use up some yarn in order to justify buying more yarn. This basket is crocheted with six strands of acrylic and a Q hook. Yay! now I have room for new yarn!

Nice basket. I love the colors also. Was it hard on the hands with 6 strands??

Not at all hard on the hands. The acrylic yarn worked easily on the big plastic Q hook. And as you can imagine, it worked up really quickly. I love using the Q hook. On the other hand, I'm crocheting a little bowl using strips of fabric knotted together. THAT is very hard on the hands....ouch.

Great job on the basket! I bought a q hook once to make a shrug, with two strands of yarn. But, I bought bulky yarn, and it was just way too thick! Anyways, I don't know how i did it, but I misplaced the hook!
lol, i got my little BIL laughing. I came home with the hook, and held it up, and said "Yeah, I don't think this hook is big enough." :rofl He thought it was funny.
I still don't know how i misplaced it. It's so huge!!! maybe it's under the couch.

Which size did you use? I think yours looks better made and cuter than the pattern samples. You did a great job.

What a great idea! Why not? I think everyone should have yarn available in the john - that's where I make my best creations! (I'm just kidding of course! :lol)

I used the small basket pattern. My boyfriend tells me that I keep crocheting things to put more yarn in; and I have enough yarn. I had to make this to get rid of some yarn....he didn't see the big box I got yesterday. He would've died.

When you were crocheting with 6 strands at once, did you use 6 different skeins?? Did you ball up a skein into different bundles? How many skeins of each color did you use?
I am just being nosey. I think I might make one! I have tons of stash.

I definitely didn't use a whole skein of each color... not sure exactly how much. I was lucky and had 3 leftover skeins of each color that I had used to make a rug (crocheted with 3 strands together). Then I rolled up 3 additional balls. The balls I wound up were about the size of a tennisball. I ran out of yarn a couple of times; but just tied on more yarn with a knot. (it's easy to hide the knots)
Another good thing to try is using both ends of a skein. Using the end from the inside of the skein and also the end on the outside of the skein.
Good luck! It's an excellent scrap yarn project.

Great basket!
It's funny, I also made a version of that one a few days ago and the first thing I did, too, was cram it full of yarn to take the picture of it :lol

The basket turned out beautiful, but isn't it a bit costly? I mean 6 strands of yarn crocheted at once... Yarn is quite pricey and hard to find where I live, even if I only buy on sales, it's still around 3$ for 1 skein... maybe I'll try this pattern with srips of fabric...
Nice work anyway :)

I LOVE Q-Hooks! projects work up so fast!
My boyfriend freaked out a little when he saw my Q...he thought it was like a novelty hook or something, like a big comb or toothbrush you win at the fair
:laughroll
the look on is face when I pulled that sucker out and started using it...priceless.

May I also mention: I am selling acrylic yarn , 12 skeins (18gms./skein) for only US$8.75(shipping and handling included). I hope you take a look at my site (http://mymonaco.blogspot.com/2005/08/sale-of-acrylic-yarns.html). Thanks!
