Hi all, I am new to this board, found it while searching Google. I've been looking for a pattern to make a Kufi. My grand children (13) ranging from 2 years to 26 years asked me to make them a nice Kufi, well, not all of them are asking just the middle ones, lol. I made a knitted one from a free online pattern, but it didn't come out the way it looked on the internet. My oldest grand child said they look better crochetted.

I have searched the internet for the past week and have not seen a "free" crochet pattern for a Kufi. Do anyone here know where I can get a free copy of the crichet version of this Kufi or, if possible, will you share your pattern with me.

The Holidays are slowly creeping upon us and I want to be ready to surprise my grand children with the Kufi.

what is a kufi
According to Google's define: function..

"One of the oldest types of Arabic calligraphy and the first calligraphic perfection of Islam. Its name derives from the Iraqi town Kufa, which was one of the earliest centeres of Islamic learning. Kufic has many derivatives; al-kufi al-farisi or al-kufi al-baghdadi and al-kufi al-maghribi. It is also the direct ancestor of all the calligraphic styles of Andalusia and of North-West Africa"

But those patterns look more like hats to me. :think

I've made this kufi (http://members.aol.com/JSchlossma/bskc.html) & it's very easy to make. It also lends itself to some really creative color combos!
