View Full Version : Three tiered crocheted rope necklace

Sometimes I make things just to see if I can. I have never seen a rope necklace like what I have done here. I wondered if it was possible. So with some experimentation this is what I came up with. I call it Wheatfield as it reminds me of rippling fields of wheat. I did it with size 11 bead, with size 13 for the spiral ropes. Still have a few kinks to work out on the design but it was fun to do. The rope necklaces aren't my most favorite forms of crochet but once in a while I do enjoy playing with them.

Whoa, that looks complicated! I've been wanting to try out that rope/bead technique, but I'll probably be using the bracelet pattern from Michael's that uses slightly bigger beads. ;)

The rope pattern itself is simple. It's everything else that gets a little complicated.
I have a free rope pattern on my website that goes into both the slip stitch version and the single crochet version. It also has some stringing patterns for various designs. Go with the larger beads to begin with it will make it easier.

I looked at your free patterns but I don't think I have the patience for that kind of crochet. It is beautiful to look at though!

I'll have to go look into that...AFTER I finish the poncho I'm working on. I am not a million-wips-girl. I tend to do things one at a time.

Maybe someday I will do something like that which requires stringing a million beads and not getting them entangled...How does you do that?

Kathy, that's very pretty. I'll have to show that to my mother. Her and I make jewelry. She does some beautiful macrame necklaces. She would like to see yours. She already thinks that crochet is like this high form of art, and this will just make her think that even more so. Once again, great job!

Your work is very inspiring. Thanks for the free pattern to learn the basics. This is so far above my skill level I may start with a mini rope for a doll!

do you use a certian type or brand of beads for your work? is there a particular brand you recomend? your work is phenomenal :nworthy

Most of the beads I use are the czech seed beads. It use way too many beads to have the Delicas an option. It would cost me way more than I care to spend. I do use a lot of the cut beads as I love the sparkle they give a piece. Makes the light dance off of them.

Wow!!! :clap I've done two beaded ropes approx. 21" long. One I call "Bubblegum" because it has pink, white, light blue pearly, seed beads and the other I call "Celebration" because the seed beads are black, white, yellow, red, etc. My question is, "How long did it take you to make?" "Are your ropes out of seed beads?"
My DD strung the beads for me both times and that alone took two weeks, let alone crocheting them into the ropes. It is a lot of work. I wish stores sold seed beads strung on thread already for the purpose of doing this.
Since I've done ropes myself I truly admire your work. It is absolutely amazing.:cheer
