O.K, call me stupid, but, what makes it magic? I think my step mother had one that she borrowed from her son and I would like to make her some in diferent colors for x-mas. both of these links are for knitting though, are there any easy to folow crochet patterns for it?

The one I remember was done in crochet and it extended to double its original size. (hence the term "magic")

Unfortunately, I don't remember anything else about it.

Thank you for trying though:)

If you look at the link I posted, you will see that crochetfun is right. You can stretch it fully open and wear it as a ponchette. You can twist it and wear as a hood. You can stretch it lengthwise and it becomes a long and skinny tube that you can wear as a scarf.

No one knows of a crochet pattern for this? My grandma bought a scarf like that for me to look at and possibly duplicate. But I think it's something I'd rather have instructions for. :)

I remember seeing a pattern for a scarf like that, now I am just trying to remember where. I believe you use a Q hook. Now if I could just remember the site! I am still looking through my favorites.

I don't think it's the mobius scarf. It's a tube.

I found it:

It is the simplest thing on earth done w. a Q hook.

:cheer
(It is not a tube)

Thanks to all of you for trying: now we have lots of new links to patterns :)

Hmm, I can't remember. I know I saw a bunch for those round knitting loom circle things. (forget what they're called) I've got one that I haven't really made anything yet. It looked like the pattern is for sale....

i have actually found another site and made the stretchy scarf and the magic scarf gets its name from the fact that you make it half the length you want it to be and then get a friend to hold one end and you pull and then it stretches to twice its length. i made one with dk and it is so easy to do but it did stretch although not twice its length but it is nice and long anyway. may post the pic here. here is the site :)

So far it has been really easy!

I am using Bernat Boa and I am on my 3rd one and it might take a little of a 4th one. The pattern called for the fun fur but I didn't have any here so I decided to try the boa and it streches really well.

I love crochet, and hesitate to say anything derogatory about it, but by the very nature of crochet, it just does not lend itself to something that needs to be able to stretch as the magic scarf does and still find it's way back to its original shape. Knit does.
