This is my first post here in the projects board. It only took me a month to work on (becuase I waited to start until Thanksgiving) this afghan, which is the Prairie Star pattern, done in the Colorado Avalanche colors. I made it for my older brother for Christmas. He didn't hate it, but being the manly man he is, he didnt really love it, but his wife does! Hope the picture works.

Thank you everyone! Wow, such great comments and I didn't even think it turned out so fantastic like ya'll said! The pattern is the Prairie Star, someone posted a link to it. I got it for free at my LYS.
The most helpful things I can say are: you must absolutely start in the center like the pattern says. Otherwise, it gets a little hard adding the motifs in the correct direction. And second: make a copy of the diagram and highlight or cross off motifs as you go. That way you dont add or skip any. And third: don't ever try to make an afghan in a month! Its very stressful. Also it being my first afghan didn't help either! My sister-in-law will be getting her own afghan in May, when her second baby is due. I'm still searching for just the right pattern for her.
Thank you all again!

I found the pattern in Under Cover: 60 Great Afghans published in 2004. When I did a search here on Cville to see if anyone else had done it I ran across this post. You have given me confidence! I did two motifs and figured out the join (whew!) and now I'm ordering yarn. I'm gonna try it in chenille, holding two strands of 1200yyp together and using a K hook. It's gonna wind up being a bedspread for my king (77"x105") but at least it will go quickly with the large hook!
Wish me luck, girls! I am going to shoot for getting it done before spring, but I know myself- I get bored doing the same old thing, so I'll be doing little projects at the same time. It shouldn't take too long after all- it's ONLY 222 motifs! :eek

This is just simply GORGEOUS!!! My 12yo dd saw it and wants me to make her one. So, that said, I am off to see if I can't find a pattern. The link in these threads no longer works, so I will be searching it out.
Hugs and I'm with the rest...if your brother doesn't want it, one of us will take it in a heartbeat!!!
Keep crocheting!!!:hug
