There's lots of hearts here Crochet Pattern Central (http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/hearts.php) and here at Martha's (http://home.inreach.com/marthac/heart.html) Most can be adapted to be made into an applique.

Thanks Cheryl, I have checked those. I was hoping for one that someone has made already, or has seen and was suitable for a small applique. :)

If you simply start at the bottom with CH2, then work 3SC into the first CH. CH1, turn.
Work 1 SC into first SC, 2 SC into next, 1 SC into last SC, CH 1 turn. (4 SCs)
Next row. SC into first SC, 2 SC into each of the next 2 SC, 1 SC into last SC, CH 1, turn.
Do this until the piece is 1/3 the size you want it finished.
Then for the next 1/3rd increase only on alternate rows.
Then work straight, without increasing until almost the size you want.
Mark the 2 middle stitches.
Shape the top by working 1SC into first SC, Decrease over the next 2 SC, work in SC to within 3 SCs of the middle, decrease over the next 2SC, 1SC into next SC, CH1, turn.
1SC into first SC, decrease over next 2SC, work to last 3SC, decrease over next 2SC, 1SC into last SC, CH1 turn.
Do this until there are no single SCs between the decreases. Break off yarn then join back at the middle and repeact the other side the same.
You can then put a round of SCs right around the edge, doing a decrease in the centre top and working 3SC into the point.
This will come out bigger or smaller depending on the yarn you use so if you are using thick yarn and a big hook, it will not be easy to make a small heart.
I do have a picture of one I made if you need to see it, but I have not yet posted any photos.
I have instructions on how to post them but as yet do not have Photobucket organised.
Hope this is helpful.
Yell if you need to know more.
Have fun.
Colleen.
PS If you do not want to work to these instructions, just cut a paper pattern the size you want and crochet to fit by increasing going straight and decreasing to suit. Just use SCs as they are smaller and easier to shape to suit.:hug

Thanks, Colleen,

As always, you are full of good ideas and suggestion. You must have had a lot of crochet experience:) That's exactly what I needed.:clap
My daughter is going back to university this weekend and I made her a few potholders. I wanted to put some tiny heart decorations on them.
(she likes hearts since she was little: her nursery was decorated w. little hearts when she was a baby)

I appreciate your help:)

Glad to help Crochetfun.
If I had not replied, you would have worked it out somehow, I am sure.
Yes I have had a lot of experience, not so much recently, but it is a bit like riding a bike, you never forget.
My Grandma taught me when I was 7 and I am now 63 so you can work out how long that is. Further than I can count on my fingers.
I think I was lucky that I understood, right away, how stitches worked so I have always been able to picture what I need to do to make a pattern work.
For many years I crocheted Shawls, Ponchos, Cardigans and Waistcoats etc and then I bought the wool shop where I bought my yarn. Rather a drastic way to get a good discount. We made original knitwear for customers and really enjoyed ourselves. When my mum had a stroke and could not help me, I decided it was time to move on.
My three children all got married over a short space of time from 1994, so I sold the business and got Grandchildren instead.
It was only last year when I found the DIY & HGTV message boards that I started to take an interest in Knitting & Crochet again and I have met some wonderful people. Then, of course, I found this great place and you know how good it is here.
As you can see, I do go on a bit so I will turn off now and make breakfast.
It is 8.38am Friday 2nd Sept. Officially the 2nd day of spring but a bit foggy for my liking.
Have fun.
Colleen.
