So I'm watching this movie starring Sybal Shepherd, and I see the characters represented in Martha's real life jail stay, and she meets the gal who gave her the poncho, except the gal is knitting.

When she presented the poncho to Martha when Martha was leaving jail, I couldn't see if it was a knitted or crocheted poncho in the movie. But... wasn't Martha's original poncho crocheted?

There is such a big deal made of this poncho you would think they would get it right.

Glad I wasn't the only one to see this.

My Dh even said: "Hey she is knitting that. Wasn't it crocheted?"

I thought she also paid the girl to make it for her.

They didn't show a flattering picture of the poncho either.

Doesn't it seem that if they show anyone in a movie doing needlework with yarn it's always knitting, never crocheting?

I saw that Cybill Shepherd last night. The finished one was knitted and it a boucle/nubby looking yarn. The edging was weird, too. Like ruffle-y points or something.
I was wondering if maybe they couldn't do the crocheted because of copyright or something. :think

Actually, from what I know about all of this, the original one was knitted (which is weird because I thought you weren't allowed to knit in jail, only crochet) but I am pretty sure the one Martha wore when she got out was knitted but it became such a sensation that they came out with various versions that us crocheters could use.

P.S. I really didn't like that movie all too much. I liked the first one about Martha that she starred in, but this one didn't portray her evil enough! :lol
