This turned out to be more of an evening coat than just a cocoon. I was having trouble getting it to be wide enough, so I ended up using the yarn doubled. By doubling the yarn, the cocoon is now plus sized and fits me very well. I used the red heart glitter yarn that comes out once a year for Christmas. I wanted it to use for dress occassions. And that is exactly how it came out.

I should mention that once I doubled the yarn, I did no altering of the pattern. I found that the sleeves are too long; so when I catch up on a few projects, I am going to shorten the sleeves.

Thanks a bunch. It's hard to tell from the pic, but the little flecks is actually gold lurex thread.

GREAT JOB!!:bow :bow :bow
I really like the color you choose.:thumbsup
I's good to see someone else make it.
I take it that the yarn you used is a sport weight, and by double stranding you made it fuller?
Maybe you can model it for us?:camera

:lol I could model it. But it's winter in the NorthEast. I don't think it looks to terrific with my flannels. :lol But it will be used for dressier occassions.
Actually Ken, it wasn't really a sport weight yarn. Now that I've figured out that all I had to do was make the chain longer to get the size larger, I might just make another and do it in the ply that was intended. It should end up much lighter; but, I am not at all unhappy with the weight of this, as it is. We've already got snow here. :eek2
I followed your link to about.com but I had a devil of a time with the directions at first. Then in that long post someone linked another version of the same sweater. And BINGO! The second set of directions were so clear and precise. Those are the ones I ended up following. But I used the cuff from the first set of directions because I like that look better.

Viv, here is the link for the directions. It is a word document. Just click on the doc icon on the bottom of the post.

If you want all the different details, go to page 2 here at Crochetville. Open Ken Jones' post about his cocoon. There's different links in there for the original instructions. But the link I just provided is for the directions that I found easier to understand.

Hi TeriNY,
I'm from Philly, so I know what you mean about the weather.
I may make another one.....didn't like the shape of the back and the sleeves....
I did a kid's version......in RH Lt Rasberry. I used a V-st collar instead.....made it lighter.
