Hi there:

I've knitted many pairs of socks but have crocheted only one pair so far.

I wasn't too keen on the heel/ankle shaping of the crocheted sock pattern I was using so I tried my own design, making it up as I went along using a knitted sock as my guide. I'm working cuff down and the only problem I have is my cuff top is tight. I've tried using a larger needle for the foundation row and it seems looser but is this the way to go?

Thanks.

A larger hook should make it bigger... Also, if I understand you right, you are starting at the cuff, right ? You could try starting out with more stitches.... Or a combo of more stitches and a larger hook...

That's why I havent tried the socks yet....I did only one for my grandaughter and it wouldn't fit her. She is a thin child and the sock wouldnt go past her ankle....lol...it was a size 9 sock!she's only 5
