I received my drop spindle this weekend and have been spinning like a maniac. After plying I get a super chunky yarn (6 wpi). I'm going to have around 7 ounces of this stuff (don't know the yardage). What could I make with it? When I find the camera I'll take a picture (7 yo hid it somewhere).

I'm actually considering knitting something up because it uses less yarn. I was thinking a scarf, but I'm not sure I'll have the yardage.

Any of you know of any cute hat patterns that could use a chunky yarn?

Here's a picture with a quarter for scale:

a thin open scarf would probably work... not sure if you want one, but I bet it would look great! (hmm did you post your spinning over in the spinning forum? I'd love to see it). :)

I assume you spun wool, so you could use a big hooks (M or higher) and make something to full (like a bag) or use the big hook and make the open weave scarf. I've crocheted pencil roving before and used a P hook and it worked out well.

The yarn is really pretty, I sure love the colors! Maybe a cute hand bag?

Go to, www.crochetpatterncentral.com. Look under free patterns, click on "hats", there is one called "Simple Nubby Cap". I have made two of these hats with Lionsbrand "Homespun" and they looked great! Will be very warm. Where it says "Rnds 7-13: repeat rnd 6" , I found it neccesary to add two rows making it Rnds 7-15.
Your yarn looks like it would be fun to use! I love Lionbrand's "Homespun"! Found it on sale today at Hobby Lobby (in Texas) for $2.93!
Good Luck!

Shelly, that one might work out very well with my yarn. If I have enough I would make a scarf also. Thanks for the heads up!

Dots UBW hat (http://bythehook.blogdrive.com/archive/110.html)would work perfectly with that yarn, and the hats are quite cute =) You'd just use a single strand.

And when I read your original post I read "7 yo" as 7 yarn over rofl sheesh! I immediately realized my mistake, but it was kinda funny, I think I've been crocheting too much ;)
