View Full Version : Comfortghan Request - Aunt diagnosed with breast cancer (CLOSED)
Celestial Seasonings
October 12th, 2005, 12:44 AM
I was working on a square for another comfortghan today when my mother called to tell me that her sister has just been diagnosed with breast cancer. She lives in Minnesota, where it's just starting to get cold outside, and I immediately thought to make her an afghan. I'm hoping for 12" squares in springtime, cheerful colors -- pinks, purples, greens, yellows, and whites if possible, and with any sort of flower motif (she loves them). Your crocheting and well-wishes are greatly appreciated!
Don't worry about edging them; I'll take care of it! I'd like to have them collected and together in time for the holidays.
Please PM me for my address if you can help. I'd like to collect at least 12-16 squares. :manyheart

Put me down for one, sending you a PM, and I'll see how long it takes me to do the one before I commit to the second. Do you have any yarn preferences besides color?

I'd like to keep it all acrylic, Red Heart and the like, so it's easy wash and dry. Thanks so much!

Oh, forgot to ask - should I edge them before I send them? It isn't a problem on my end but would need to know a color to use.

I'll make a square or 2 for your Aunt's comfortghan. Pastel colors, RH preferrably, 12 inch squares. Edging or not? Any color preference? I know I have several different pastels. PM me your shipping address and a deadline or approximate deadline.

The squares don't need to be edged; I'm going to wait to collect them all and then join with the most neutral color possible. Colors aren't an issue either, so long as they're light and cheerful! I really appreciate this:hug

My Aunt is scheduled for surgery tomorrow morning, and we're very hopeful that all will go well, and the surgeons won't have to remove the entire breast. Afterwards she will have chemo and radiation to go through, but she and my family are very optimistic -- she's a fighter ;)
Thank you to those that have sent squares already. I have slowly begun to assemble the afghan, but am waiting for more squares to arrive to make final placement decisions. :manyheart

your welcome celeste, i am also praying for your auntie. i know how you must feel as my beloved auntie also was just treated for breast cancer, and then after she had the radiation after the lumpectomy, her daughter was taking her to the ocean beach to stay for a few days as a special healing time, and they were hit head on by a drunk driver who of course recieved no injurys, but auntie and cousin are still suffering. i saw them today in fact. so i will pray that your auntie has healing and comfort knowing that others care about her and what has happened to her:hug :hug :hug :hug :hug

As far as I know, my Aunt is doing well and responding to her chemo. :manyheart
Also, her comfortghan is finished, as you can see by these photos! I edged the center square in pink in honor of breast cancer survivors, and edged the afghan using the pattern from the 63 Squares pamphlet (my new favorite!)
I pulled out the brightest squares and assembled them into a cheerful bag for the afghan, which I still need to photograph (alright, so I haven't quite finished the edging!) A photo of it will be up ASAP!
All that's left is to retag the squares and ship! Thank you to everyone who contributed, and keep an eye on your mailboxes next week!
