I finished my son's birthday afghan. It's the diagonal box stitch done with a size N plastic hook (which is almost twice the size of a metal size N) and two strands of ww. It turned out really nice and cushy and weighs a ton. It'll cost me an arm and a leg to ship it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v478/SamplerLady/mmouseplus.gif

I can't see the picture, but it sounds great!
Hey let me know how you package it. Do you get a box at the post office? I have to large afghans to send out any day and I've never done it before.

The afghan is on it's way to my son! Amber, as for how I shipped it, I bought my dog a set of dishes that are elevated on frame so she wouldn't have lay on the floor to eat. I used that box and just put the afghan in it. UPS added some paper to firm it up and off it went. I rarely send heavy things via USPS as it's more expensive than going to UPS. HOWEVER with that said, if one goes to a UPS Store one is not saving any money because once they add their surcharge on....well, not much is saved.

So if one has a UPS hub locally, it's generally worth the trip in savings to go there to ship heavier items. I never buy boxes to ship things in. There are always boxes available for the asking at grocery stores, book stores, etc. Just ask. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v478/SamplerLady/mmouseplus.gif

It looks huge. No wonder it's heavy. I tried doing that stitch. I just couldn't get the hang of it. Sometimes I read directions and they just don't make any sense to me. Wish I could figure it out. It looks really nice.

Teri, if you like we can IM or meet in a chat room and maybe I can help you figure it out. Like everything else in crochet, it's soooooooo easy once you figure it out! :rofl

And again, thanks to everyone for their kind words. He'll get the afghan on Wednesday the day after his birthday. It's starting to get cold in his part of the country (Shelbyville, TN) so I'm sure it'll come in handy. The afghan basically covers the top of a twin bed, so it'll be good for wrapping up in while watching the football games as well as an extra blanket on his bed. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v478/SamplerLady/mmouseplus.gif
