I was planning on buying a LapBand for my mother in law for Christmas. One of her little Daschunds has a bladder control problem. Whenever he gets excited he pees everywhere. It really ticks me off when she brings him over our house because I have to clean it up!!! I had heard about these "Lapbands" you can buy for dogs. Basically it puts pressure on the male dogs "part" and stop him from leaking. They also have a little pouch inside so if he does piddle, it stops the leak...

Ok, now that everyone knows what it is... I went to the pet store today and they want $39.99 for one of these things! It's just a piece of fabric with a velcro closure and a pocket for a "pad" to stop the leaks... Couldn't I make something like this???

So basically I would need to make something that wraps around the doggies back end (it's like a scarf almost) and use velcro to close it...

First question: What kind of yarn would be best so that it's washable?

Second question: How does one attach velcro to a crocheted item?

THANKS for any help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How does one attach velcro to a crocheted item?

You can buy velcro that has a sticky back. I've used that, then I use a sewing thread that matches the yarn and sew it down to make sure it stays. :)

Ooooh, I hate sewing! However, if it'll save me $40 and the trouble of him peeing all over my rug, I'll do it! THANKS!

P.S. Am I the only person who cleans up after my doggies if they make a mess somewhere? Just wondering!

I would use a punch and crochet the velcro on. How easy is that? ;) Good Luck.

btw just so everyone knows I do that for towels when I crochet a topper on them. It's much easier than tring to figure out how to make a button hole.
