Hi All,
This is a simple question, I'm sure, yet not so simple to me. I'm attempting to follow a hat pattern which says:
2sc together over next two sc
What exactly does this mean?
My guess 2sc in each of the next 2 stitches (which happens to be sc). After all these years I've never run across this one, so any and all help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I would say yes that is what it means.

i think you will find that is decreasing so you do half the sc in first st and then go in next stitch and do same and then take off all stitches like normal leaving one on :hook

Yes, Sals is right; sc2tog is a decrease.
You will insert hook in 1st st, draw up a loop, insert hook in next st, draw up a loop, then yo and draw thru all 3 loops on hook.
What you suggested would be an increase, and for that I'm pretty sure they would just say "2 sc in ea of next 2 st."

Thanks ladies. I knew what I was doing just didn't seem right. I'm going to try it again. Later today I'm going to take a trip into Queens, and check out this Smiley's yarns I hear so much about. Please give me the strength to not need a truck to get back home, lol.

i think as well it is a decrease....
aka
(pull up loop in next sc) twice, yo and pull through all 3 loops on hook.
Is this an old pattern? Maybe it is the new lingo on pattern writing? At first I thought it was an increase as well.. but the word "together" makes me believe otherwise.
That is so awesome you are close enough to a Smiley's !!!! I LOVE that place.. now i just need to win the lotto!!!

I did it everyone. Your suggestions helped immensely. sctog is a decrease and it made all the difference this time around. I sat an started and completed my rasta hat all in one night. I will post pictures of it on Monday along with the poncho/hat sat I made last weekend. Dag, I really love this forum. Now on to find a scarf pattern to match my hat, unless I dare make up my own.
Thanks Again
