I had a chance to visit all three of the yarn shops in Montclair yesterday.
They are each different from each other.
Stix-n-stitches
211 Glenridge Avenue
973-796-1860
this shop has an at home atmosphere with couches and many women knitting-unfortunately no one was crocheting.
the selection of yarns and books were excellent.
the owner even had a good selection of crochet books.
the owner answered all my questions and was friendly.
Modern Yarn
this shop is smaller but also has a great selection of yarn.
in the rear of store is table for customers.
i liked this shop best bcz of owners' attitude and customer service approach.
Ely's
this store is much smaller. it has been in montclair for 30+ years. it is also on the same block as Modern Yarn.
owner was friendly and helpful. this is an old time lys
books are older- i was not able to tell how old yarns were but some of them looked dated.
I don't think the three stores will survive-interesting that the town has 3 shops
