To do a dc cluster, yo, insert hook into first stitch and pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, yo, insert hook into second stitch and pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, yo, pull through remaining 3 loops on hook.
Hope this helps.

Yo, insert hook in st, yo, pull through st, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, (yo, insert hook in same st, yo, pull through st, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook) 3 times, yo, pull through all 5 lps on hook, ch 1.

Actually I have seen instructions for the cluster stitch done all in the same stitch and over a number of stitches. You really need to read the pattern stitch instructions and see how they describe it. I was going by the instructions in The Crochet Stitch Bible, but sometimes the cluster is worked all in one stitch.

:) Actually:) , for the Overhead Poncho pattern (http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/patterns/overhead_thread_poncho.php), it's done this way:
2 Dc Cl = 2 Double Crochet Cluster = (Yo, insert hook, yo, pull up loop, yo, pull through two loops on hook) twice. Yo, pull through all 3 remaining loops on hook.
The description is listed above the instructions under "Abbreviations".
You'll be doing each 2DcCl in one stitch or chain.
