I hope this link works! I was having trouble figuring out photobucket so I moved my pictures over to yahoo. Hopefully this will take you right to the crochet pictures

If not, try this

and select the crochet album.
One bag is a pink & purple one I made for my friend. I used Lion Fishermen's wool and I died the yarn w/ kool aid before crocheting it. The other bag is the navy & green striped one. I made that with White Buffalo yarn. I really like the way that worked up! I did split the roll from 6 strands down to 3 and worked with the 3 strands. It was interesting to work with. I couldn't go quite as fast because the strands would break but on the up side, I was able to use an N hook so overall it went quickly. I crochet that as an oval instead of a round and I like the finished bag better than the round ones I did. Not as much counting to do either so it was pretty mindless.

I really like your oval bag too.
Me, three! ;)
Two questions about the oval bag: How did you make the handles? How much yarn did it take?
I can't wait to give felting a try.

Thanks for the complements ladies! I am having such a good time with this. It's so hot & sticky here today I'm working on a cotton beach bag, couldn't stand to play with wool lol!
The handles. I used all 6 strands of the White Buffalo, N hook and chained 61 stitches. I went back down the chain using slip stitch and fastened it off. That sucker was fat! Before felting I pulled each end of the strap through a space between stitches and tied a knot. Much easier than the other bags I did where I worked big holes in the body of the bag and made I cord with a knitting spool.
I meant to weigh the bag before I felted it so I knew how much yarn I used but I forgot. I'd say about 4 oz of the blue and 2-3 oz of the green. I have no idea how much that would translate into for regular yarn.

Here's my notes on how I did the oval bag. It's not an actual pattern per se but I think you'll get the idea. My eyes glaze over reading patterns so most of the stuff I do I just kind of wing it. Hence the fact that I do a lot of bags & hats instead of clothing lol! You could take this same concept with any size hook and yarn, just change how many increases & rows you do until it's the size you want. Let me know I can clarify anything.
Oval bag. White buffalo 3 strands. K hook. Ch 21. 1 sc in each st, 3 sc in last st. Repeat down other side with three stitches in the last stitch. After one complete row, switch to hdc. 1 st in each st, 2 stitches in last 3 stitches. Repeat down other side. Do 4 rows increasing at the ends like this. Switch to N hook. Still in hdc, do 1 stitch in each stitch to build sides, no increases. Made it 15” wide & 13” high, approx 21-22 rows in all. Alternated colors, about 4 rows each.
Straps. Chain 61, slip stitch back down. Slip through holes before felting and knot ends.

Thanks for the rundown, HollyM.:bigsmile
Your directions make perfect sense. I would have never thought to do the hook changes, but the bag would probably be stiff as a board if you hadn't.
