An elf blessed me with this yarn ...it was vintage and said cold water washable so i figured once the hot water hit it .. it would still felt (full) and i was right.. this is what i have spent the last couple days doing.. i made this drawstring bag .... then i put it thru the washer here is how it all unfolded...

these are the befores .. with some measuring..

this is the after....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v442/threeolivemartini/finalproduct.jpg

the end product is about 6 inches across the bottom .. 9 inches wide when folded and about 9 inches high ...
i am going to lace the top with some brown suede and make a brown suede sling strap.. i LOVE the way it turned out !!

It came out great--nice job Beth. I have to get around to doing one soon....................

I imagine, if you could do a double thickness of this, it would make a pretty basket too.

Good work

Sampler..HERE (http://www.berroco.com/exclusives/annie_bag/annie_bag.html)is the pattern i loosely based my bag on.. i dont think i can claim it as mine because i changed a few measurements for my yarn.. apparently they used a smaller yarn.. had i made all the rounds it would have been huge...

i changed it in the striping pattern as i went up the sides and only used the 2 colours.. i jsut made it in a size i liked hoping it would full down like i wanted... and it did.... the finished measurements of my bag are almost the finished ones of this bag... the pattern is nice too.... i like the way the ridge is formed on the bottom and top of this pattern

also.. thanks every one for the great comments..

and Kari.. it really IS that easy... i put my bag thru the wash about three times though cause i wanted it nice and tight... so in return SP and I have clean sneakers LOL

i do have a question
:? if the yarn is WW, what hook did you use? and all sc?

threeolivemartini
January 11, 2005, 04:28 PM
yes its all sc and it was a little thicker than worsted weight.. no weight on the labels as it was vintage and had knitting gauges.. but a bit bigger than worsted and i used my TOTC K brazillian tulip wood hook ( i know blatant plugging for Bill LOL)

Oh what a lovely felted bag!!! I am yet to find wool here in India for felting. I also don't have a 100% dryer so would that make felting harder? We dry our clothes out on the clothes line as its summer like year round:)

Vims.. i didnt put mine in the dryer.. it was just run thru the washer three times on the hottest water i could get... and with some vinegar...

kariholtz
January 12, 2005, 02:30 PM
OK Probably a dumb question that the answer is probably somewhere around here if I would just look but why vinegar?

threeolivemartini
January 12, 2005, 02:33 PM
you can use soap as well. you just want to change the PH and in my opinion i think vinegar does that better...
