Ok, so I found this pattern:

http://www.knitlist.com/97gift/xmashat.htm

My son LOVES it! But it is knitted... and being a PITA for my MIL to knit....

Any ideas how to convert it to crochet?

We also found this one for a baby:

Too cute! But knitted yet again...
The only CROCHET christmas tree hat I could find was on eBay (for sale) and it was just a basic "cone" type hat in green with Christmas tree type decorations on it... not too exciting....

Thanks for any help!

http://home.inreach.com/marthac/chris.html has some patterns for Christmas trees, wasn't sure if there was really any way to make them into hats, but they are crochet. I figured it would be a start. Tonya

OK this is probably a wild idea ...... maybe use a cone hat pattern, every 4-5 rows crochet in the BACK loop ONLY. Then when you get the length you want and finish off you go back to the FRONT loop and single or hdc to give it the ridge like in the 2nd pattern you showed us?? OR yeah im full of wild ideas ok? OH OH here we go lol Do the cone hat and maybe every 4-5 rows ........ bear with me plz .... do a chain 8-10 then connect it back to the hat? It will be a loop then. Use beads too maybe? Anyway, even if these are too wild, maybe someone else can help too.

Ok, I am trying this.... where it says knit I am doing hdc's... where it says purl I'm doing front post hdc's ... makes a risge on the inside so I will have to turn inside out... I am better at front post than back post... that's the only reason I am using front instead of back...

I am only using a swatch with like half the stitches the pattern calls for just to get an idea... in the front (or back) loops didn't really make as pronounced of a ridge as it looks in the picture.....

Any thoughts?

Tina

(I may just get this yet!)

They look like inside out dimples...

I think the way to acheive that in crochet is to start increasing a lot in the areas you want to dimple... so they will push out... similar in theory to a popcorn, but on a bigger scale. I've seen patterns for sculptural baskets using that technique.

I think to get them pointy like tree limbs, you might have to block them over a form, since otherwise they'll look like warts...

I was all excited when I saw this post.. I have been looking at that pattern for months now and wishing I could make it. but as i am just new at this crocheting stuff, I have no idea how to convert the knit to dc!! I have been searching for a crochet pattern, but alas, still no hat.. hopefully some day..

Ok, I found this pattern: http://members.optusnet.com.au/we2/smallxmastree.html It's done with thread BUT if we used worsted wieght and a bigger hook, do you think this could be a hat???? Now to figure out what hook to use....

Tina

Edit: I forgot to add that I wouldn't want it in white..... would you?
