View Full Version : Is there a crochet equivilent for this stitch?

I would like to make the loveknot shawl but the pattern is written in the UK crochet terms.

I have the US crochet equivilents for all but one of the terms used in the pattern -- the one called "selvedge stitch". I googled the term and it appears to be primarily a knitting stitch. :think

Does anyone who does both crafts know how to do this stitch type in crochet, or is there a crochet stitch that will accomplish the same look and purpose? Thanks for any and all help. :)

In knitting, a selvedge stitch is used on the edge of an item to make it have a neat edge (useful in seaming or picking up stitches along it).

I'm not sure how that would be translated to crochet, other than perhaps a slip stitch.

How is it used in the pattern? Or do they ask you to tack on a couple of stitches to either side of the item for selvedge?

Hmmm, there is a pattern in one of the Crochet! Magazines from this past year that had a crocheted wisp or something like that but it was all in "love knots"... When I get home I'll look for it and see what I can find... But I do know it was all crochet and looked beautiful!

Actually, I misread the pattern -- the section that uses that stitch is for the Flower Attachment and says,

>> 4th row: 1 ss and crochet as follows in each ss loop: 1 ses, 3 ts 1 ses. Finish with 1 ses in first ss at the beginning of row. <<

I do not see the stitch stated anywhere in the actual shawl section of the pattern.
