I hope this makes sense... I've never written a pattern before.

(Yet unnamed scarf)

By Crabby Cabbie
Materials:

1 skein Red Heart Super Saver “Aran”

(Uses about 2/3 of one skein)

J hook (6mm)

Abbreviations:

Sc = single crochet

Dc = double crochet

Yo = yarn over

Ch = chain

Sk = skip

Cl = cluster Yo, draw up a loop in next stitch, Yo, (draw through two loops on hook) 3 times, Yo, draw through 4 remaining loops on hook.

Or alternately, Dc 3 times in next stitch, leaving last loop of each Dc on hook, Yo, draw through 4 held loops on hook.

*********************

Chain an even number. (I used 160 - you can use more or less for length)
1) *(Sc in 2nd chain from hook. Dc in next chain) Repeat from * across chain. (odd number of stitches - you should end with a sc in last chain.) Ch 2

2) Dc in same stitch as chain. (The Ch 2 does NOT count as a stitch in this or any other row) (Sc in next DC, Dc in next SC) across. End with DC in last stitch. Ch 1.

3) Sc in same stitch as chain. (Dc in next SC, Sc in next DC) across. End with SC in last stitch. Ch 2.

(NOTE: all Wrong side rows start and end with DC, all right side rows start and end with Sc)

4) Repeat row 2

5) Repeat row 3

6) (Wrong side) Dc in first Sc, Sc in next DC. *Work cluster in next Sc. Sc in next Dc. (Do not Ch 1 in between) Repeat from * across to last 2 stitches. End with Sc, Dc. Ch 1.

7) Repeat row 3, Dc in each SC, Sc in the top of each cluster. Ch 2

8) Repeat row 2

9) Repeat row 3

10) Repeat row 2

11) Repeat row 3

12) Ch 2. Dc in next stitch. Dc in same stitch as turning chain, working over Dc just made.

*(Sk next Sc, Dc in next Dc. Dc in skipped Sc, working around Dc just made)

Repeat from * across. Ch 1

13) Sc in all stitches across, finish off.

14) Attach yarn to first Sc on opposite side of scarf (wrong side facing you) with a DC. Repeat row 12.

15) Repeat row 13

Add fringe if you want - it looks good with or without.

I did another one (which I don't have a pic of because it got snatched from me immediately). It came out even better.

I used the cluster stitch row on every wrong side row... even better!

I titled it Crabby's Cable Scarf! I already started on one for my son, he liked the pattern as he said it isn't too "girlie" looking.

Oh I love it! I always stick with one color scarfs, but most patterns depend on color changes. I have a whole bunch of wool-ease I bought on sale that I can try this with :)

Oh, I'm adding a link from my one skein project pattern list (http://crafts.vigilant20.com/?page_id=79)too!

:blush :blush :blush (really blushing) Thank you, everyone. I really love that one myself. I NEVER make two of anything, but I liked it so much by the time I gave that original away, I made another for myself.

Stay tuned, I have some more stuff I'll post within the week. I have been REALLY inspired by some stuff I've seen on here and am currently working on 2 sweaters/ patterns.

I am a multi-tasker, so I have multiple projects going at once, always.

I LOVE crochet, but tend to prefer stitches that hide the crochet. I guess what I mean is that I like stitches that don't look like stepford rows - I like rows that blend into each other... like that one and the paris stitch and a few others...

(I don't know if this makes any sense at all)

Where are the alternate directions? I can't find them.

I've made your scarf twice, so far.. once in a solid and once I *broke the rules* :D and changed colors.. I love them both and they're destined for donation to the Red Scarf Project at www.Orphans.org (http://www.Orphans.org).

Sorry, haven't been on in a couple of days... been trying to change the fuel pump in the cab. What a pain! But I manged to pull it off, costing only $175 instead of the $600 the shop wanted for the job - including paying someone to help me with the heavy stuff. I am tired and I hurt - LOL - but yeah, when you can't afford something, you learn to do it yourself or fake it. Its my only living, so it mattered that it got fixed and back on the road.

I am impressed! The 2-color one is really nice. I couldn't picture it in my head like that, but I like it.

The alternate directions were at the end of the pattern - just involved doing the "bobbles" on every wrong side row. - Just more texture. I like the original better, myself, though, and I like all of the pics I've seen. Makes a girl proud. :dance :flower :2rock :h5 :day
