You can't do it because it doesn't come naturally. It just feels backward, doesn't it? I had a hard time with it, too, and found that I had to literally talk myself through each step, or else I'd end up reversing it and doing a front post dc.

What part of it is tripping you up?

If you can do the front post dc, then the back post is doable also. A little hint, pull the first loop up a little high, to clear the top of the stitch, before completing the dc. This keeps the stitch height consistent throughout your work, and is important if you are combining regular hdc or dc with fpdc or bpdc. (front or back post dc)

For the front post, you: yo, insert hook between the stitches and back through the next two stitches starting at the front, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull, through 2 loops on your hook, yo, pull through remaining 2 loops.

For the back post, you will: yo, insert hook (from the back) between the next 2 stitches, around the post and back out between the next 2 stitches, so that the hook is now, at the back of the piece. Yo, pull through a loop, (this is where it can be difficult to keep the loops on your hook), yo and pull through the first 2 loops on your hook, yo and pull through the last 2 loops on your hook.

It can be difficult to pull the loop through the post and keep everything on your hook, but with a little patience and practice you will soon be doing it like a pro. Please email, PM or IM me if you continue to have problems, and I can take some pictures to show you.

There's a good tutorial with pictures here (http://www.geocities.com/riverglorious/Patterns/backpost/bpdc.html). Good luck!:manyheart
