:cheer I am glad to see this CAL go up! I can't start mine yet, but I am most definitely in. I am thinking of using a variegated yarn to choose my colors, but I am not sure which yet, as I have yet to go buy my first skein. I might just dig around in my stash and see what I can dig up. I'll post more when I know more. I am really excited about this one!:yay Thanks for starting this CAL up, JulieKay. :clap

Hi Crafty -
( Can I ask what your first name is ? ) I always like calling people by their name, so it seems like I get to know you all better. You live in my favorite state, you lucky thing ! What part of the state are you in ?
Great to have you join !!! Can't wait to start working on this either. I have a truckload of yarn , it's just sorting through it to decide on colors .

Ok Ladies -
I have chosen my colors. I kinda wanted to go along with the rustic type look that they used in the photo, so I am using - gold, carrot , dk sage, ranch red and cafe . It kinda looks like fall colors .

What beautiful colors for this ghan. I'm in this one too. Starting 3 ghans at once is kind of silly, but I just can't help myself...lol. I also like the rustic colors, I have so much yarn, that I'm not going to buy any new yarn for these ghans. I can't decide which one to start with.

Well, if you're silly for starting three, then I'm even sillier . I'm on 4 -- how I'll pull this off, who knows ,because I'm not usually good at juggling several things at once. I guess that can be my 2006 Resolution . To finish what I start . :)
Shaylen,
I love it ! That is really pretty ! No, it's not too bright, I like it a lot ! This is sure gonna be a pretty afghan isn't it ?

I'm here also. I have the pattern I just need to decide on the colors. I have a ripple i started for my couch that I think I may frog. I want to make this for my couch instead :) The ripple was navy, navy varigated and off white. I think I have some pinks and greens to throw in too. I really need to cut down my stash, its getting a little unruley :) I need to finish a mile a minute afghan for my sil before I start but I hope it wont be too long.

I refuse to buy any more yarn until I put a good dent in the stash. Now how many of you believe that????
I started the afghan. I got to round 13 and I'm short stitches. I should have 120 sc and I only have 102, :thinkthat's a big difference. I'm pretty sure I did round 12 correctly so I'm hoping I just skipped some stitches though 18 is a lot to miss:ohdear I do admit the phone rang and I got to talking (yeah I know that's a no no with some patterns) so.. off to frog I go.

NancyCA
January 1, 2006, 09:41 PM
I LOVE Oregon. We actually CHOSE to live here! Everyone thinks we're nuts, but we love the weather here. We lived in Santa Cruz, CA for 18 years and the weather is just like that, only the houses are more affordable (why we moved away from SC, CA).
We love the rain and storms and the sunshine that peeks through every week or so. We got just a small taste of summer when we moved here, so I'm looking forward to not having 100* temps everyday here. :clap

Madelyn and Olga -
I started last night and did get off count a couple times.so I had to take that round out and redo it , but so far, I'm on track again with stitches. I'm on round 17 now . It is a pretty pattern !
Danielle. I know what you mean about time -- never enough to get everything done you want to do !
Patty and Nancy-
Good going, keep it up !
And MARE -- GREAT to see you here. Hurry and get that 35 done so you can join us here ! I've missed seeing you ~

Shaylen -
You are a few rows ahead of me. I'm on 17 right now. It's not twisting, I don't guess you'd say, but I'm just on the area now that the circle is turning into a square. It looks a little lop-sided at this point . Not a circle, but not a square yet -
I noticed it tells you how many stitches are supposed to be on each side now . Have you counted your stitches to see if they are the right amount ? Tha's the only thing I would know to check at this point to make sure they are equal on all 4 sides. I've never made this afghan before, so maybe it just looks like that til you get it a little further . I'll try to keep on this today to get to the round you're on , then I'll let you know how mine is looking .:)
Don't give up- we'll get it figured out !

Nancy - I forgot to reply about Oregon. I've never been there, but seen pictures of it -- it looks beautiful out there, with all thoe trees and green things growing !
I don't know if you're a reader or not, but wasn't one of Annie Dillard's books about the early settlers to Oregon ? DANG -- what was it called ?
I'm not at my most alert at 4:40 AM --
I'll go look at Amazon then get back to you - ok, here's what it says-- does this area sound familiar to you ?
settlement at Whatcom on Bellingham Bay (near Puget Sound)
It is called The Living ..
Haven't read it yet-- too many crochet hooks in hand at the moment but it sounds REALLY good !

After deciding which colors from my existing stash to use (I decided on yellows/browns), I'm on round 8.
I like the look of it so far!!
I have the day off today and Aunt Flo came, so I think I'll be relaxing on the couch with a hook and some other projects -- I'm REALLY excited to do this one, however I have two other projects that are looming overhead. I'm determined to cut the stress level in my life, so I'm working on them first.

Oh boy Shaylen. I'm not this far yet. I'm on row 20 doing the cross stitches. I will definitely keep a look out though. Mine is looking a little bunchy, I'm hoping it will straighten out as I get more into the square.
Julie you got a lot done in no time. And you're doing 3 CALs. You must be a super crocheter.

I have a question on Row 16.
Now, it says to ch3, dc in next dc, Then it says to tr in NEXT dc. WHAT dc. You slip stitch it onto the dc on row 15. On my piece, that only leaves ONE dc to the left of the connecting one (where you ch3) and after that is the ch2 sp.
Anyone come up against this one? I've right as gold up til now. Could they mean to dc in the SAME dc as the ch3?
Thanks for any insight. I don't want to go ahead and have to frog out....

Hi Nancy -
You might have to go back and count again to make sure you have the right number of stitches . The pattern kinda gradually goes from ENDING AT the corner, into ending a couple stitches BEFORE the corner. I'm on round 20 and so far, I have the right number of stitches . The round I had trouble GETTING the right number was round 13.. I had to redo it several times to come up with 120 .
NancyCA
January 2, 2006, 05:10 PM
Well, now I'm confused! ROFL! I have the right number of stitches... It is really funny for me as I've been crocheting 32 years and I've never had a problem with an afghan pattern! Guess there's a first time for everything, huh? :lol
I'm going to go back and count again... As Arnold says... I'll be back! :hook
EDITED to say that I figured it out. When I sl st'd to the one dc, I was counting THAT dc as the one that has the ch3. It should be the dc one and that leaves one more before the ch2sp for the tr. I feel MUCHO better and can continue on! Woohoo!:yay

It's this pattern I think. It's pretty simple but I've discovered you have to read the instructions a few times before it's clear.

I havent started mine yet, but I cant seem to decide on a color.... If I choose to stash bust do I have to use the same weight yarn? I mean if I do one part in rh and some more in lion chenille T&Q, will it look wonkey?
Natasha

I would think you'd want to use the same weight yarn or something really close. I think the T&Q would be way too bulky.

Shelain,
Using different weights of yarn in this would change the guage of certain rows and patterns, and probably not look right. Probably using the same weight of yarn throughout would be better. Just my humble opinion.

I'm on row 20 and here's what I've used so far with my stash busting...
ww, TLC Macaroon, boucle and RH Casual Cotton. I haven't had a problem with any of them. I do plan to use my chenille t&q as well! I think it will have interesting colors and textures this way.

Hi all well here i sit waiting very impatiently for my pattern to get here. I have my yarn country blues/burgandy/rose/off white/and a varigated called country print. Most of it was stash. You all are getting so far I probably won't get my pattern till the end of the week or the beginning of next week. Its a shame this would have been the perfect week to start I have no kids this week till friday. I have a job interview thursday so in 3 more weeks if i get the job i may not have a daycare any more. I will miss the kids but sometimes you have to do what you have to do to pay the bills LOL. Here i am rambling on but i have nothing to work on and i dont like much TV. So I guess i will tell you about myself and maybe you will tell me about yourselves. I am 45, I have been crocheting since i was 9 or 10. But never anything complicated just simple stitches and easy patterns. Till lately i want to try more complicated stuff. I have a 16 year old son and my 84 year old Mum lives with us. I run a child day care for the past year before that i was a licensed practical nurse but lost my job due to hospital politics.I had only been there for 23 years.Oh well one door closes another opens. I love the daycare but it doesnt always pay the bills. So it's back to nursing for me.Well I hope I haven't bored you too much. The mailman is gong to be scared of me in the next few days while i stalk him LOL I can't wait to start this.

Marnie, it's so nice to get to know you. I'll tell you about me:
I am 40 and a SAHM (starting a new job from home in March). I have been married 17+ years and have 2 children (12 and 8). Oh yea..my third child is my mini schnauzer named Lucy. haha I have been crocheting since I was 8 years old having been taught sc, dc and turning by my grandmother. I am self taught beyond that and love every kind of afghan from easy to hardest. I have done a few layettes and other things in my days, but I always come back to afghans. I love the feel of the yarns as they take shape on my lap. I always loved seeing my grandma stitch like that.
:manyheart
We just moved to Oregon from northern sierra California the end of August. Yes, we CHOSE to live here. hahaha We love the weather here with the rain and all. I do miss the snow, but we did have it snow here a few weeks ago and coat the ground. That was nice.
I think that's about it and if I think of anything else, I'll let ya know!

WOW!! I've only been away for a few hours and I've missed so much! :lol
Thank you for the compliments on my progress. It's so fun seeing everyone's work! They all look wonderful!
You ladies have been busy! this is my first CAL and I love it! I love seeing the different color combos everyone is using! I love getting to know you each a little better! And I love that I have you all here to ask questions of or to help along the way. I sincerely love Crochetville! :manyheart
A little about me: I'm 32, originally from Minnesota. Hubby and I got married in Oct '02, hubby got promotion & got custody of his two kids and we all moved down here to Florida in July '03. Talk about change!!! :eek Leah is 18 now, graduating this spring and going to University of Tampa (private college) next year to start pre-med and Josh is 16 and is actively invloved in NJROTC at his high school. They are both great kids, but I was very used to being on my own at 29 years old. It took us ALL a while to get adjusted. But we've adjusted quite well. We all get along VERY well. I feel blessed to have that kind of relationship with each of them.
I do miss Minnesota immensly! I moved 1600 miles from everything (family, friends, job, etc) I knew to start anew with hubby. I love the lifestyle we have down here - I do like that it doesn't get SO cold here in the winter that you hesitate to go out. It was really warm here today -- too warm for T-shirt and jeans. I'm not "bragging" about that - I actually find it quite disturbing for January weather! :lol I miss the seasons of MN, though. I've vowed to myself now that Leah is done with High School (I've been very involved in her color guard/band activites), I'm taking a break in Sept every year to fly back home for a few days. Fall is my favortie time of year when the air is crisp and a sweater and jeans is just enough to keep you toasty.
Oh, crochet.....my Mom taught me when I was about 8 - I lost interest very quickly. I don't think I ever finished anything. In 2000, I went to the library and checked out a few books to refresh my memory and started back up. I taught my Leah how to and then lost interest again. I picked up my hook again in June after visiting my Step-mom (who is an avid crocheter) - she got me all fired up about it again!!!! XOXOX mmmwwahhh! I can never thank her enough!! Now, I'm a hopeless cause. My hubby was in shock when I told him we had to go to WalMart so I could get some plastic totes to organize my yarn. He was like "Plastic totes?!?! How much yarn do you HAVE?" :eek
I laughed! He's okay with it, as long as I don't take over the whole house! :lol I think he likes that I make things for his family, too.
Anyway (sorry to ramble on) -- that's me -- in a nutshell. :D

Hi Kathy
Mine didnt do that,it allways layed flat,on mine the whole center square was twisting. Are you by chance getting tighter with your stitches as you go??thats what it sounds like to me,maybe after the center flower you should go up a hook size and see if that helps, ive done that before and it works sometimes..Im using a size I hook and all red heart yarn.
Thanks for the comment on mine.

January 3, 2006, 08:11 AM
I bet the yarn is the problem. I'm using a little of this and a little of that;) Trying to use up my scraps/stash. The yarn I used in the center seemed alot softer than the rest. I'm going to try blocking it lightly. Otherwise its:frog

Hi Ladies
My computer was on the blink and wasn't able to get back in here til just now -- looks like you are all hard at work on your afghans and keeping the message boards busy !
To tell you all a little bit about me, I'm 48, mother to 3 grown kids. They are all married .I also have 6 grandkids ,one that I babysit during weekdays, so my time on here during those days is very limited .
There was a point when my afghan didnt lay flat either, but that was back when it was turning from a circle into a square. It seems ok now .
I ,too, changed my colors and totally restarted it . I was not happy with mine at all in those fall colors. It reminded me too much of my mom's living room back in 1972-- remember all those rust, gold and olive greens ? YEK
Anyhow I also chose all shades of green, so we'll have 2 that are greens, but there can never be too much green !!!

January 3, 2006, 10:42 AM
I had an email regarding round 20, so I thought I'd post my answer on here, just in case anyone else runs into trouble with it :
When it says ( ch 1 ,sk 1 sc, work cross stitch )
Don't do a stitch into the skipped one at all. You're actually skipping 2, then making a dc into the 3rd stitch .Then you;ll do the cross stitch into the one to the right, leaving the first one empty with no stitch .
When I reached the next corner, I didnt have 3 stitches left, I only had 2, so I did the chain 1,then did a regular cross stitch into the last 2 stitches before the corner .
That way it equaled out to 15 cr. sts on each side .
Hope this helps !

Wonderful wip's, everyone!
I must confess that I've been lurking on this thread :lurk ...
I would love to join in -- I was up in my attic the other day looking for something and came across a couple of BIG bags of yarn that I must have tossed up there 20 or so years ago :eek . Most of it hadn't been used at all, and it was like the best present of all! So I have lots of stuff to use for this afghan, but so far have not been able to find the pattern in any of the stores around here. When I do manage to snag it, though, this will be another project on my list.

I haven't started this one yet and probably won't until I finish the 35 Grannies but am curious...
Is anyone using various types of yarn? I have a lot of novelty yarns and think this one would be particularly pretty with a combo of yarn types, making it a real stash buster for me. I am sure I'd have to adjust stitch counts to compensate.
Anyone else using a variety of yarns?:think

since I havent started my afghan and have no progress to share I thaught I would tell yall a little about myselfe. My name is Valerie, I am 25Mother to Anna, 5 months, Matt 4 in march, Lilli 7, and Carol 8. The last 2 are my stepchildren but I introduce them as my kids because I love them as such, but sometimes I get a funny look because I have 4 kids that age at 25 so I explain. I am a SAHM, but am thinking about going back to work because I have always worked and I need to get out of the house at least part time. The only problem is finding someone who I trust to watch my kids.
I havent crocheted as much as I would like the last few weeks because I keep thinking when I get my house clean, clothes washed, supper cooled, etc, I will set down and crochet the rest of the afternoon. But there is always a sh**y diaper or a runny nose so and my precious crochet gets put aside once again....
I havent started my afghan mainly because I cant decide what color or yarn to use. I want it to be thick so I am thinking maby homespun and chenille T&Q. I know I want to use at least 2 diferent kinds of yarn. This is going to be the hardest thing I have done so I want the colors to be special. I am thinking warm colors..... What do yall think? Would lion suade go with the other 2 yarns without throwing off the size or guage or whatever?
Oh, almoast foregot, I am married to a wonderful man, he is a manager of a parts store, we have been married for about 5 years.....

Hi Valerie
Nice to meet you ! It sounds like you have a busy life. Mine was like that at one point too, but they grow up and are gone in the blink of an eye ,then you'll have lots more time to do stuff for you .
Thanks for the compliments, Mare and Olga !
Poor Olga, sorry to hear you have to take out so much of yours ! Hope it works out better this time !

I won't be much help to you on the different yarn question. We have a very limited supply in my area, so it's mostly red heart or SS -- that's about it. I'm not real familiar with the other yarns .
I'm sure some of the other ladies are though ~

Julie, your afghan is looking good. I understand the babysitting. When I keep my grandson, I make sure I have nothing else to do.
I didn't get much done on my afghan today, only another two rows. Hopefully tomorrow I'll make a bit more progress.
Happy crocheting everyone!!

I'm up to row 13 so far. I had to frog 2 rows because my count was messed up... ughhh
It's been hard on my arm so I'm not moving very fast. I've been having some pain under my arm and I found out yesterday that it was shingles. Everytime I start stressing the pain gets worse. It got pretty bad today when I was stressing about if its going to affect my upcoming surgery (on the 16th). I really just need to relax and crochet, I'm way to young to have all these problems (I'm only 21).
Eveyones Afghans are looking great. I love to see all the differnt color variations. I will try to get a pic tommarow of mine. I'm doing greens and blues and a varigated (RH SS Water Color). I haven't gotten to any of the blue yet though only the green and the verigated.
Julie how old is your grandbaby? I have a son whos 2 and deffinatly a handfull.

I"m up to the bobbles stitches. at first i was having a little bit of a problem. I solved that problem. where it said to drop yarn and to pick up color c.and join with slip st to first sc, do not finish off. i just finish off row 38 and join colot c with the wrong side facing to work row 39 that way. and its much easy to work. I love this pattern and all the different stitches it has.

Wow, everyones looks so nice:clap . I too had to frog mine and start over:angry . My count was right but I couldn't get it to lay flat:think . I think I used a slightly lighter weight yarn near the end of the medallion. I'm using mostly leftovers so who knows what they are. I'm back on row 30 something.
I really like everyones color combo's. Mine is just whatever is near the top of my odds and ends box. Hopefully I'll get a pic up tomorrow.

Good morning everyone,
Sorry I wasn't in here as much yesterday. I was due to watch my grandbaby, who is 3 ,by the way, and my best pal in the world ! I have watched him every weekday since he was newborn . BUT, I got the stupid flu yesterday which I haven't had in years, so I had to step out on babysitting .Didn't want him to get it from me !
You guys are all doing so great on these . Some of you are ahead of me, I can't remember the row number I'm on, but just finished the first row of shells. I'm dreading the bobbles. They are a pain in the rump .
Nancy- Sorry tp hear about your doggie. What kind is he ? We aren't pet owners, so I don't know what it's like, but I know people love their pets just like they do their family members !
Danielle, Sorry to hear about your health problems. It is NO fun being sick . Hope you are soon feeling good as new . Your colors sound pretty !
A BIG THANK YOU to all you ladies -- you are all being so very nice to each other and posting away a LOT -- I love a busy message board. It's the sign of a successful crochetalong ! You all keep up the good work. Today, I will be babysitting for sure, so I won't get much chance to drop in til later this evening . You all have a great day and keep on working. I'm proud of you all ~

I haven't been able to work on mine since that first night. I'm still on round 20. Hubby had surgery on his hand, so I have to drive, and that cuts into a lot of crochet time. That is just bee-ooo---teee--full ! I love it ! The colors actually seem to match your bedspread colors. Did you intend for it to be used in your bedroom, or was that just a coincidence ?
It sure is turning out to be a pretty pattern, isn't it ?
I'm on row 41 now. I keep telling myself I'm halfway done, although I'm lying to myself . Each round gets bigger and bigger, so I'm not actually halfway done, just half done with the number of rounds !

Well, I'm 14 squares into the 35 Grannies CAL, I have a couple purses that I need to finish (no rush on those), this CAL and I want to do the Fendi bag. I try to keep up with doing as many chemo caps as I can squeeze in time for and also work on charity stuff with my quilting group (I'm the only person in my quilting group that crochets instead of quilts LOL). Well, if you have some wool lying around, you could make a really quick felted purse or cell phone bag. Cell phone purses are so easy... just make a rectangle that when folded in half is large enough for the phone. If you are going to felt it, then make it about 1/3 larger than you want the finished product to be. I usually like to make the handles with either a long single crochet strap or twisted yarn. Make it long enough to fit across and over her shoulder (canteen style). Embellish it with a really cute button.
Scarves and scollars also make quick gifts. I also like to get a nice basket, line it with some hand made face cloths, add some special soaps and lotions and wala! Spa Basket!

Madelyn -Love the colors- it reminds me of the desert ! VERY pretty. I 've never used Lion Brand Suede before but I hear lots of good comments about it ! It must be a nice yarn !
It sounds like several of us are about in a tie for first place-- all around the halfway point . I keep telling myself it's halfway, ( but it's not really ) since each row gets bigger and bigger !
It sure is a pretty pattern though ! I have started one in a different color for my daughter in law. She flipped when she saw it and wants one in browns -- her favorite color .
Keep up the good work you guys !

I'm on row 26! Yay! I agree-I love this pattern and plan on making at least one more.
Well, let me take a little time to tell everyone about myself. I am a 34 SAHM with 3 beautiful kids (Ally 7, Zachary 5, and Ty 16 months) the youngest of which has a mild form of cerebral palsy (hemiparesis if anyone knows what that is). So, I have my hands full! Oh, and how could I forget my yarn patient DH. My grandma taught me to crochet when I was 13 or so but didn't pick it back up again until just a couple years ago. And, you know what? She has been knitting over the years! Once she saw that I picked up crocheting she started again, too. What an awesome thing to do: sit and crochet with my grandma and my daughter who is learning.
I'm done rambling. I love seeing and hearing about everyones progress. It gives me the inspiration to keep the hook moving! :hug

Oh My Gosh, Stacy -
Cherish every minute that you can with your grandma. What a wonderful picture that makes, seeing you crocheting together with her . I only wish I would have had that opportunity . My grandma did all types of handiwork, crochet and quilting were the main ones I knew of. I don't know if she could knit too . She passed away when I was newly married with small kids and I really didn't take the time to learn from her . I already had taught myself the basics but it would have been wonderful to have her helping me out !
Time is SO short, ladies...especially with senior members of your family. Cherish every moment with them . Someday you'll be glad you did !
That is my TIP FOR THE DAY .
I LOVE GIVING TIPS . My grown kids run for their life when they hear me start on one of them .. they say OH NO............MOM IS WINDING UP FOR ANOTHER PEP TALK !!!!!!

Crystal,
Just to clarify - you worked row 39 on the wrong side?

My bobbles came out on the right side when I did that round , but if they don't for some of you that have problems, you can just "pop" the bobbles out onto the right side when done with that row !

Okay I got through the bobble row with no problem. I did have to do less loops though due to the thickness of the suede yarn. I have just about depleted my stash of suede. I'm hoping Rag Shop will have it on sale again so I can restock. Meanwhile I think I will get started on another one, this one with only two colors, purple and lilac.

You all are flying! I haven't been able to crochet OR cross stitch any this weekend. I was printing up invitations, envelopes and rsvp cards for my parent's 60th wedding anniversary. We kids are throwing it for them and I am organizing it all and just got these invites done!! It's pretty much smooth sailing except for waiting for rsvp's to come back and collect money from my other siblings. I am the youngest of 7 children and I cannot wait to see everyone there!!!:clap
I'll be getting back to my afghan tomorrow night. Can't wait for that either as I love working on this afghan.

Welcome, Shelain ! Glad you decided to join us !
Nancy and Madelyn - I know what you mean about crocheting time when your grandkids are with you. It's very limited, but I would much rather spend some time with my grandson now , while he's small. I have watched him full time since he was newborn and he is 3 1/2 now, so I don't have much time during weekdays to do much but play . He's just starting to like games now, so we play a lot of Chutes and Ladders, Ants in the Pants and Don't Spill the Beans. His favorite is Hi Ho Cherry- O. I bet we have played that game 7000 times ! I also found him a youg kid's version of UNO with Curious George on it, so he loves that too .
I figure I'd better spend every spare second I can with him. He's growing so fast and all my other grandkids live out of state so I rarely see them .
There will be plenty of time for crochet when he goes off to school !
Shaylen - you're doing great ! I'm now on row 50 --- it's getting so big now that the rows go a LOT slower than they once did !

I got a little time this weekend to sit down with this one. I'm on rnd 14 right now -- I put it down last night cuz my counts kept getting screwed up somehow. I counted VERY carefully while crocheting each round, so I'm not sure where the mishap is, but I'll figure it out during lunchtime today. Hopefully, I won't have to :2frog any!!

I am being very careful with counting everything because I don't want to frog too much :) I'm hoping to get a good dent in this by next monday, that's when my surgery is. Hopefully I will only be out of commision for a day or 2 (I'm having laposcopic surgery), but it may be longer. I also have to whip up a couple of birthday presents this week, so who knows. I'm half way done with round 37.

lunchtime is over and I just finished round 16. Now I have to go back and make sure I have enough stitches in each round..it went pretty smooth so I'm hoping it's all okay.
You go Shelain!! I can't afford to stay up that late anymore....getting too old. LOL
Danielle - you'll have no problems finishing this one before your surgery, I'm sure.
I was hoping to get to 19, but I spent a lot of tiem counting and recounting. I have a very bad habit of only reading the first line or two for each round/row on patterns and then I get to the last bit (beyond the *) and find out I did it wrong from the beginning so I'm trying to be very careful with this one.

Morning, Ladies
Just a note for those of you that may make the same error I did.... I cannot figure out what I did wrong , but in case you do the same thing, I will show you how I corrected it so you won't have to tear out a REALLY lot of work !
On row 53, when it says to ( sk next sc, work cluster,ch 3 ) across to next corner... I did as the pattern states, but I ended up with WAY more clusters than they said you should. It looked ok, not too frilly along the edges, but I knew the next row would have to be something a little "tighter" so to speak, to make up for all the extra stitches .
Well, on row 54, it said to (3sc in next ch 3 sp, sc in next st ) across. I started that and thought NO WAY --- this is gonna turn out with WAY too many stitches on this row. SO , I sc'd into each ch 3 sp and into the next st ( top of the cluster) across. It looks fine and tightened up all those extra stitches I had on the row before .
I have no idea what I did wrong or where I messed up, but at this point, there is NO way I am tearing out several rows of work . I just wanna GET IT DONE .
Anyhow, just a heads up .. maybe I'll be the only one that does that row wrong, but just in case -- here's an easy solution to you to correct the problem !
:) I am now on row 55 -- my next project is gonna have to be something totally mindless. I need a break ~~~~~ :eek

January 10, 2006, 10:38 AM
Thanks for the heads up Julie! I will probably need that info when I get that far. This is by far the most complicated thing I have done. I have never even attempted a bobble.I didnt get to work on mine as much as I would have liked yesterday, I only get about 4 rows done. I noticed in the pictures that everyone seems to be weaving their ends in as they go, are all of you doing this? I hate doing it but I think I may weave as I go with this because I know that when I get through I will want to show it off right away and if I have to spend hours weaving in ends I will get frustrated.
How do you all finish off your ends? Mine never look very nice and was just wondering how yall did it....

I usually crochet over my ends as I go. Others probably weave them in. I guess it's just an individual thing, but I like to get them out of the way as I go so I don't have all that to do at the end !

Ok, I wanted to get a lot more of this done today but I am haveing a problem...
On round 26 I have 66 sc on each side(youdo count the sc on each side of the ch 3 in the corners right? I did, technically there is 64 sc between each corner) and I can not get the ch 1 spaces in round 27 to come out right. I keep getting 24. What am I doing wrong? I am going to put it down tuntill I get a reply cause I dont want to mess it up
Thanks

Oh, and thanks Julie, I started working over the ends today and I think I like it, Much less work!

Shelain - If the stich isn't too open I crocet over my ends, and if I don't forget :) There's about 7 hanging on mine that I didn't do, I will just weave those in at the end.
I'm on round 41 now just finished up the bobbles this morning. I really don't mind doing them. It was the sc over them that was driving me nuts. I love this afghan, but the one thing I really dont like is all the sc's. I'm not a big fan of doing sc's, I like the way they look and everything I just don't like to make them :lol

Wow... Madelyn and Danielle! Your ghans are gorgeous! I can't wait to get started but I am forcing myself to finish my 35 grannies first and it's not even half way :(
I have been getting my yarn for this one, though. It's going to be the most expensive afghan I've ever made I think!!! I'm going to do it in alpaca. I've always wanted to do a ghan in alpaca-it's so soft and snuggly! Of course, it'll be many colors because that seems to be the way I do things. So far I have a burgandy multi color blend, an earthy orange, grey, dijon, lemon yellow... I'm bidding on some steel blue, grapevine, royal blue and cream.
Oh well, hope you all have a great day!

Cristin - With this one, because we are finishing off and starting in a new corner, I have been starting in the oposite corner of where I finished the last round. This way I only have one strand to crochet over instead of 2.
Quiltymare - those colors sound so pretty. I bought the 2 colors of green and the verigated and then dug around in my stash to see what else I had that would go. I still have 3 more colors to add Soft White, Navy, and Dark Grey. I don't like the way the country blue in mine goes with the verigated but It doesn't bother me enough to rip it out and take it apart :lol

OK, you guys are having too much fun in here. I have purposely avoided reading this thread because I love this pattern but was intimidated by it, but the post count was racking up so quickly I thought I'd come find out what the chatter was all about- you guys are a riot! Now of course, I want to get in on it. Sigh. But hey, I'll be here as soon as I can wrangle some yarn/pattern money.
I think this says chenille, and I have a few yarns already- I just need to pick up some darker tones for contrast. I can't wait- this sounds like quite the learning experience, plus it's not repetitive, so I shouldn't get bored. Great choice for a CAL!
See you soon!
