Beverly's Craft stores (scattered throughout California) have all yarn except Crystal Palace and Trendsetter on sale for 25 percent off, plus a newspaper coupon for 40 percent off any nonsale item. (The coupon is hidden in the small black-and-white display ads in the local section of the San Jose Mercury News, so it's probably hidden among the ads for carpet cleaners and personal improvement in any given paper.)
I've never actually seen Crystal Palace or Trendsetter at my local Beverly's -- just the regular craft-store stock of Lion Brand, Red Heart, Bernat, and Moda Dea -- but the staff is, on the whole, friendlier than Michael's (if even slower at the checkout stand). Sometimes they have pretty good unadvertised sales, like Homespun at $3.44/skein right before the holidays.
