The only one with that design that comes to mind is by Herrschner's and it's covered in flowers to look like a garden trellis. It was one of their contest winners.

i had a pattern for a trellis afghan and it was white, mesh(1dc,2ch) and you made 20 flowers in red,20 pink etc( 6 or 7 colors) and they were made around centres of at least 3 different yellows and you made 2 leaves for each flower and as many again to scatter along the vines .Which were chains crocheted along 6 sections( like strips) but made to look as if they were winding their way up the trellis. Then you had to pin every flower in position and every leaf and sew them on to the afghan. It looked stunning when finished and the aunt i made it for treasures it ,but i swore i would never make another one ,as the sewing took me longer than the crocheting and i hate to sew things together. It was an american pattern and i think it was from Red Heart, there were a couple of other patterns i did that were in the same pamphlet and my pen pal sent it to me from the US about 10 years ago. Does this jog anyones memory? Does this sound like what you want?

Not sure if this is what you're looking for. I found a pattern called "Lattice." It's in a book put out by Leisure Arts called Herrschners Blue Ribbon Afghans. Picture shows a red afghan with black lattice. According to the pattern the crocheter would follow a chart of a large X which, when completed, would connect to other large X's. Is this what you're looking for?
