In the show and tell area, I see so many really beautiful afgans that just take my breath away. I would love to make one, but they intimidate me. I usually make baby things that are small - big projects scare me. I've had trouble with squares - have been making some simple ones, but seem to mess up with more complicated patterns.
Can someone share a good beginner afgan pattern that either uses simple squares of a simple large design. I can't seem to join squares as I go so I'd need to sew them after.
I make a lot of chemo hats, and I'd love to be able to send coordinating lapghans for the kids.
Thanks!

Hi there,Crochet Pattern Central (http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/afghans.php)has many lovely patterns. I'm sure you'll find one there that would suit you.

BTW, a bunch of us who live in Florida are planning a get together tentatively set for June. We'd love to have you a part of it. Right now we're thinking the Clearwater area but are not sure yet. We want to make it central as we have people from all over Florida. Let us know if you'd like to be a part of it!!!

Heartmade blessings has wonderful 12" square patterns. Here's one example.

An easy afghan to do is the ripple..

Advice: I was just like you. I was intimidated by afghans. I didn't make my first afghan until I was 30, that was 5 1/2 years ago. I had made them out to be so scary in my mind. If you take it slow, find some easy patterns and have people saying you can do it. You'll be able to do it. There's been no stopping me since I made that first afghan. In the last 5 years, I've made many afghans for charity and family. YOU CAN DO IT!
PM me anytime you need encouragement...I've been in your shoes and understand how intimidating afghans can seem.:manyheart :hug

This is a super simple design (sc rows and sc trim). You can do the solid colour or use two different colours (I think I used one skein for the sc trim), the rest in another colour. The yarn is luxurious and the afghan is warm and wonderful. I made it for a friend for Christmas in Antique White, trimmed with Chocolate and she loves it.

Thanks everyone!!!
This is going to sound incredibly lazy, but as simple as the SC version is, I think I'd go nuts. I like working in double so I make progress faster - and while I have no trouble working in the round, I keep adding or losing stitches when I work straight back and forth.
Some of those lion patterns look great. I may have luck with the giant single square pattern or with trying some of the 12" patterns.
I'll give it a try and maybe I'll have something for the show and tell forum! :)
Thanks!

One of my all time favorite 'ghan patterns is designed by one of our members here, Vera. I've made at least five blankets using this pattern in different yarns, colors, and stripe combos, and they turn out great each time. Plus, depending on what yarn you use, it can look delicate and baby-ish or textured and manly. And, it's more interesting and faster than all sc, but just as easy. I just can't say enough good things about this pattern.

Here's the link. (http://www.crochetme.com/easy-patterned-throw)

Also, I'd suggest looking into the book 101 Stitches for Afghans (http://www.anniesattic.com/crochet/detail.html?prod_id=10212). Besides that fact that one can *never* have too many stitch compendiums, this one is nice to have because all the combos are fairly solid - that way you don't have to sort thru stitches where your fingers could end up poking thru. And plus, you can always use the stitches for other things besides afghans!

Thanks Natalie!
I do like crocheting with shells - its easy to keep the size.
Now I have lots of things to try.
And I might get that book as well. I have the Encyclopedia of crochet stitches, but when I looked through it the other day, it seems like its not complete. :)

I'm fairly positive it's a violation of copyright to post that pattern here. Perhaps you could send her the ball band, instead??

sorry I did not see a copyright . it states free pattern and care instructions on reverse side of label
