Hi there!
I'm looking for a reversible baby blanket pattern. Well, I'm not sure it's a pattern, so much as a method...my hubby has a baby blanket from his grandmother (who has since passed on) that has on one side thick blue stripes and thin pink stripes, and on the other side is the opposite- thin blue ones and thick pink ones. I'm wondering if anyone knows how to do this, or knows of a pattern like this? My BIL is having a baby in late July and I'd love to make a blanket for them but they're not going to find out what they're having. I could always make a neutral yellow or pale green, but the striped one seems more challenging.
Thanks in advance!

I do know that Double-Ended Tunisian will do that. I looked to see if I had taken a picture of a scarf I did early in my crochet "career" (all of 14 months of it) but this is all I have. It is a decorative Tunisian stitch, done double-ended, but if you do the standard stitch, you will get reversible stripes.

Sorry I cant recall where I got this from. I tend to see things then experiment. I will also apologise up front that my crotchet terms may be different, and I am new to the forum so unfamiliar with how you like things presented.
I also add this is one of those UFOs! Try and disregard my chunderous colour scheme. I was eithor drunk or highly stressed at the time, and I think this is why I ran out of steam, and I never did any more!:
Start with a base chain of your required width.
Usual stuff with miss the first 2 chain then work 2 dc, 4 treble, 4 dc, 4treble , 4 dc across. finish with 2 treble. turn,
Then here is the trick.
With a different colour do 2 dc. 4 treble, 4 dc, etc all the way back. BUT crotchet thru the front loop of the base stitch only.
If you look at the strip I have posted you can see that one side is a blinding yellow, and the other a revolting whatever. The colour variation is more visual when looked at from an angle.

I have done these in baby colours and thare are very sweet. Just silly me never took photos before giving them away! I hope this is of some help.:)

Here's a link to a pattern I had bookmarked. There is no picture but you could work up a swatch to see how it goes.

Thank you both so much! This is the type of afghan I've been looking for. Looks like I'll be off to Jo-Ann's for an afghan hook, after dinner. :clap

it's not reversible stripes, but Crochet Fantasy magazine had an article and pattern about illusion crochet this issue that you might want to check out. The baby blanket pattern they had was very cool.

Quick question about this- should I use an afghan hook, or one of those flexible circular ones? I couldn't find either in my local stores, so I ordered the afghan hook from Joann.com. I'm just wondering which would be better to use? I should have ordered both. ;)

I don't believe that cupcake's or Scorpio59's patterns require an afghan hook. I made the baby afghan at the link supplied by Scorpio59 and it was really nice.
If you Google 'Crochet on the Double' you will get a great deal of information on crocheting reversible items. There is a good tutorial here.

Here are a couple of patterns for afghans made with a Cro-Hook.

There are also a lot of patterns for reversible afghans that don't require you to use a Cro-Hook.

If you wanted to do this one, you would need a double-ended cable hook (hook on each end with flexible cable between). To do a complete afghan without doing strips, you need the cable. All of the solid shaft cro-hooks or double-ended hooks are too short otherwise to fit the entire width on. Think like knitting, you have to have room for all the stitches you are working.

Could you post us a picture of it ?? We could help more with pictures.

It's at my in-laws' house at the moment- next time I go over, I'll try to snap a picture of it. MIL keeps it under wraps but I remember I was fascinated with the stripes the first time I saw it. (What does that say about me? I must be simple-minded. LoL!)

Check out the Bubble Blanket I'm doing-the red/black one is reversible and all you have to do is change colors on every row and work your ends in as you go.

Thanks. I started working on the bubbles one last night (can't remember who I got the link from) and it's looking very cute. I'm only using one color right now but I can see where it would look reversible if I used two (which I will try next.)
