You might be thinking of Annie's Attic pattern of the day. On the 22 they had three baby washclothes; white, yellow, and pink.
You can get the pattern in "150 Weekend Crochet Projects".

If you're saving the link to the patterns in your internet favorites, it will change to the new pattern everyday. They are not perma-linked patterns.
You'll have to print them out or copy/paste them into a .doc if you want to keep them.

The Annies free pattern of the day had a Baby wash cloth pattern. But Annies Attic only has the pattern for 1 day... Shame on them. You might try the Bernat yarn site.
I know they have free patterns and they do carry a cotton yarn for babies.

I just finished a 3-piece baby washcloth set for a co-worker's baby shower today, and used two of the three Annie's Attic patterns. I couldn't warp my head around the third one, so I used a pattern from Marlo's Crochet Corner. It turned out really cute! I made it a little narrower since it was for a baby, and had no problem adjusting the pattern. Here's the link:

Well, Crochetpatterncentral.com has lots of links for washcloths and dishcloths. Or if you have a stitch dictionary, you can simply choose your favorite stitch and then edge it. You should use 100 percent cotton and for a baby, I would recommend a very soft yarn like Cottontots. (I can find this at Walmart, JoAnn's and Michael's. It's popular and everywhere and comes in all the pastel colors.)
