Even as I type this, I'm thinking it's a stupid question, but I must ask anyway. I have no interest in dyeing yarn, but I want some natural color laceweight or fingering yarn. I found this at KnitPicks: http://www.knitpicks.com/yarns/yarn_display.aspx?itemid=5420139 . My question is this: this yarn says it is ready to dye. I have read that when you gals use kool-aid to dye, you put it in the microwave to set the color. Is that the only purpose the heat serves? I mean, is there a problem using this yarn as-is without dyeing and heating?

Actually, it's quite nice in its "natural" state so I wouldn't be hesitant about using it as a natural colour...go for it! The yarn is lovely the way it is and certainly doesn't have to be just for dyeing.

Thank you, Roxanne. I picked up some very nice knit and crochet baby blanket and outfit patterns from the UK (ebay auctions), and the patterns are intricate and I think they would look best just done simply in undyed wool.

That would be lovely. I've done stripes on some of my yarn, leaving natural areas, and you could, of course just uset the wool as is for a natural look.
