I always have trouble describing freeform:) Crochet/knitting without rules I guess is the best way. Here's a couple of sites that can explain it better than I can.

Ok freeform is crochet without a pattern that you make up as you go. You can make lots of little pieces called scrumblings to put together or make larger pieces and add to them with different yarns and stitches and hook sizes. What you can do with it is limited only by your imagination. I suggest that for some ideas and inspiration you go through the prevvious threads on this page and beyond and check ouut what others have been making.Believe me there are some very talented artists on here, don't be put off be inspired as there are no rules in freeform what so ever.

That's so interesting. I had been told that free form crochet meant the ability to change the SHAPE of the crochet. That when you made something 3D, that was free form.

Now that I have looked into it a little, come to find out free form is what I started out doing as a child. (I couldn't read patterns, so I would just crochet.) I always just called it "making stuff up" but free form is a much prettier name. :-)

Thanks for posting this question.
