The only socks I have ever made were from dots site. I have learned to read through the pattern first, I have several unfinished items that I crocheted and then couldent figure out how to put the pieces togeather. do not consider yourselfe a beginner. The pattern is fust a bunch of stitches youalready know, so take it one line at a time and let us know how youdo. I will go look for an easy sock pattern if someone else dosent give you oe first.

I find most socks pretty simple, a lot of the patterns call for single crochet only and with little sewing. Heres a link to get you started on some patterns

As stated just read the pattern carefully as you go. I have made tons of socks and love them because they hold up well, but I have even been crocheting along then look at this odd deformed thing laying in my lap and go OH I forgot to decrease or some other simple mistake.

Heres a link for a newborn sock. Sometimes I find working on a small project that is obtainable in a short period of time you get the confidance to tackle something larger you may have thought was complicated.

and when done save them because unless I'm wierd, we all know someone at some point having a baby shower, donate them to a local hospital, give them to a friend who recently had a baby or keep them to remind you of the "first" of something you made. Or you could make them in the same yarn you plan on using for your nieces socks and she could have them for a baby doll.
Good luck and let us know how you make out.
