I have never decreased over four single crochet stitches. Would I
yarn over and draw up a loop from each of the four stitches and then draw through five loops?
Thanks so much.

That's what I would do...I've had something similar in a pattern recently and although I think they were telling me to decrease dc over x number of stitches, it was the same concept...yo and pull a loop through x number of stitches, then pull through all loops...
Good luck.

I would interpret that to mean decrease twice which would be using all 4 stitches. I have done a pattern recently and I actually tried it both ways and bringing up a loop in each stitch makes it really bulky and does not finish nicely. I hope this helps

That's a great idea...I can't even remember what pattern I was using, but they had a diagram and it showed the decrease as I described it in my post...I would say it could be a personal preferance...

:cheer SC does not have a YO first, just straight into the next stitch and pull through a loop. Do this 4 times then YO and pull through all loops on the hook. It may need a CH to close it up or the pattern may say to do something else.
I see that Samio suggests doing Dec2 twice but that will not achieve the same result.
Decreasing over 4 SCs will turn 4 into 3 but decreasing over 2 SC twice will only decrease 2 stitches.
Have fun.
